Nikon S9 = avg
Strengths: Nice large screen, Video/voice recording options, various SCENE options like Fireworks, Snow, Museum, Close-up, portrait etc. -- GREAT CLOSE-UPS!
Weakness: It doesn't hold a battery charge as long as my Canon Elph did. Doesn't do really well in low lighting.
I think I liked my canon elph 2.5MP better, but perhaps that's just because I got accustomed to it for 2 years. The Nikon has a really nice sleek body and the shutter/flash are far out of the way of your right hand so you won't accidentally stick your finger in front of it. I don't think the buttons on top are too small, of course it may be a problem if you're older or really large. Nikon's deliver excellent quality-- ESPECIALLY on close up flowers/insects!

Small, simple, battery limited
Strengths: Small size, excellent macro mode, time-lapse movie mode
Weakness: Battery capacity severly limits movie length, lack of an external power adapter makes time lapse photography impractical
I have had my S9 for a week and take it everywhere with me. It is a nice little go-everywhere piece of equipment that doesn't demand much and offers correspondingly little in return. The flash is weak but still uses a lot of the battery power; a fully charged battery limits you to about 75 min of time lapse photography at 640x480 and 1 frame/10 sec. This is only 450 frames before you have to change the battery, and that means taking the camera off the tripod to get to the battery so your framing will be off when you continue (assuming you are there when it runs out of juice).
The S9 starts-up very quickly and the shutter delay between shots is much better than my Olympus C4040. The lens is rather slow, and the focal plane is relatively noisy at ISO speeds above 100 which is where you will find yourself if you are shooting indoors without flash.
The charger has a long cord which takes up more room than the charger itself (they should have just put a fold-up plug on the back of the charger). So get a couple of extra batteries and keep them charged. They will recharge in about 2 hrs from full discharge and seem to keep a charge relatively well though I have only a short history to go on. The camera also provides reasonable warning that you are getting low on battery. You can take maybe 6 flash shots or 15 without before it dies.
Nice size, but hard to shoot with one hand (very slick body makes it hard to hold). And don't put it in your shirt pocket as it will fall out quite easily and you might crack the case if it hits on a corner.
I bought a high speed 1GB SD memory card which it may not need, but even though it doesn't have a USB 2.0 interface it downloads reasonably quickly from the fast memory. With a 1GB memory, you can take over 750 full resolution photos so you will burn through at least a couple of battery charges before you need to unload the stored pictures.
The movie mode is easy to use and produces a good product - with the exposure automatically adjusting to changes in ambient light.
The sound quality is quite good given the disadvantaged microphone, and the audio memo mode is nice if you want to add comments that extend beyond the 20 sec that can be added to each shot.

good
Strengths: good
Weakness: sometimes unstable
I think it is a good digital camera, especially for travelling. I found lots of people use this type so I recommend it as a gift. However, it sometimes gives me some hard time to take pictures.

Great slim digital camera
Strengths: small and slim size, good picture quality
Weakness: none so far
The len of it is inside the camera, which makes it very thin and small size. it's very solid and not made of plastic. Picture quality is good. its operating buttons are small, but there are only few of them, and makes it simpler to function.
In all, I don't regret buying it and it was a good deal for me.

Nikon COOLPIX S9 Digital Camera cheek and chic
Strengths: sheek, truly pocket-size
Weakness: chic, the carrying case that is.
i always have nikon cameras. this is truly a pocket in size and easy to use, convenient to carry around. although the carrying case is a bonus, but hey that rose-color really distorts the image. the images are crisp clear comparable to any 6MP cameras. i am pretty happy with the purchase.

Nikon S9
Strengths: Small, good looking camera, easy to use and set up, large screen, clear screen. I like the in camera cropping. It lets you keep the original picture and the new picture created.
Weakness: I cannot get the camera to take a clear picture if the subject is moving. I need to figure this out though. No other flaws so far.
I really like this camera and feel that I made a great decision buying it. It is easy to use without even reading the instruction booklet. The size is great. It fits comfortably in my pocket. The pictures come out clear and look really professional. I like the fact that you can take multiple pictures in a row without clicking each time. With this feature you are bound to get one good shot, especially when taking pictures of kids. The price is right. Price grabber was great in searching for the best price too! What a great site. The camera is light weight and very attractive. All in all, I am really happy with my purchase. I reccomend getting this camera.

a new nikon
Strengths: size, 6mp, lcd size
Weakness: no viewfinder
The new nikon s9 is yet another super compact digital camera. Its size and the 6mp it offers are distinct pluses. The 2.5 Lcd is great. I am old fashioned enough to miss the viewfinder, but I guess I'll have to move with the times. For its size, it really does the job.

Worst camera I have ever had.
Strengths: Small and cute
Weakness: Dark pictures. Hard to set and complicated menu.
This camera will not take good pictures indoors. Used all settings, they still come out blurred, yellow or too dark. Took it back to store, and even the camera tech could not get it to shoot good pictures. He checked it out and said there was nothing wrong with the camera and the settings were right. He was as dumbfounded as me. If you want a camera that only takes good pictures outdoors, this one is fine. But I wasted my money on it.

Lousy Camera
Strengths: Size is very portable, LCD is clear.
Weakness: Pictures are mostly blurry, dark or yellowed, good, clear pictures are rare.
I have several digital cameras, and was looking for a thinner, more portable "Mom" camera. I'm sorry I bought this one. I have had it for about six months and it has ruined pictures from vacation, Christmas and several of my kids school activities. I have gone back to my "oldie goldie" Kodak DC4800, which rarely if ever takes a bad picture. My nephews have a Coolpix S4 or S5, not sure, and the one thing that they said about it was what nice sharp pictures that it takes. So, I requested one for Christmas, and got the newer S9. Obviously they've changed a few things!
I also took mine back to the store, and the salesman was dumbfounded. I was not doing anything wrong, and the camera was operating fine, it just takes lousy pictures. Trust me on this one: look at other cameras!!!

Do not buy
Strengths: Small size
Weakness: Terrible picture quality.
What's the point of having a camera if it rarely takes decent pictures? 90 percent of the pictures taken on mine (and I've tried every setting and lighting) are either way too bright and washed out, or terribly blurred and discolored. Sometimes they are foggy. Do not pay money for this worthless piece of junk.

case or lense to get in way. still has same zoom
and more bulky cameras. very easy to use and
large screen makes viewing quick and easy. good
over all value but not top of line.

A great camera
Strengths: high quality picture and kind of cute look
Weakness: not found yet
This is a great camera - bright screen, great pictures/video, ultra compact, super fast response time, lots of powerful features, and kind of cute look. This is the camera I'm looking for!

COOLPIX S9
Strengths: Small, lightweight, easy to carry. A lot of built in modes
Weakness: ABout 50% of shots in medium tolow light are blurred.
Even with steady positioning, I have found it diffcult to take clear sharp pictures unless I am out side in full sun. With flash inside it works well more often but basically it has been a dsiappointmnet. i have previous Nikons of all tpes and had been very happy. Bought this just for a pocket snapshot camera.

Good Camera
Strengths: Very Nice small camera, great scene modes such as fireworks, pets, and sports, i also like the rechargeable battery compared to double A's, great camera for putting in A Purse or even a pocket.
Weakness: The battery doesnt give much shots, AND hard to find in different colors, But Ritz Camera has it is Magenta
NIce camera 6 megapixels more than enough to get a nice 11by15 or even bigger, lag time has defenitly lessened, and the brand is great. The scene modes are great, i like the way that the lens doesnt come out of the body because that lessens the chance to break the lense, and evn though it might cause red eye, all the nikon cameras have red eye fix that doea its job.
