Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Photos sharp clear excellent color. 10X optical zoom allows versatile framing of shot. Optical zoom close-ups high-res compared to digital zoom. Custom modes logically organized EZ to use.

Weakness: Battery life a little short when camera used in continuous on mode - waiting for that 'perfect' shot. Consider extra battery. Also plan on bigger memory card for all those high-res photos!

I saved enough w/ PriceGrabber vs local discount retailers to pay for extra battery AND a 512 MB XD card. The merchant treated me right, promptly fixed minor problem, shipped fast.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10 X ZOOM - You don't even need to turn on the digital zoom. The size is the reason we bought this camera. It is the smallest and cheapest camera with a 10 X Zoom.

Weakness: Have I found a weakness? Nope - I really like my camera. I guess the only weakness is that when I show my camera off, my friends say... Only a 4 MP... They have a 5.1 or 6.0

They then tell me that they don't use they highest setting because of the space it uses. - So... I spend $300.00 on a camera & have plenty of money to also buy more batteries & a 512 & 256. I can now take my camera where ever I want. We can put it in my wife's purse - and take as many pictures as I want. - I really like this camera - The 770 I am sure is good to, but costs about $150.00 more and the only difference is the option to put on an extra flash, and a metal housing versus the durable plastic on the 765.

I think the 765 is plenty good enough for what my needs are. - Thanks

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10X optical zoom is terrific (steady and consistent), great light adjustment even in low light w/o flash - very surprising, fast xd card, pretty compact for lens

Weakness: xd cards a bit more expensive, works best when upgraded to longlife battery and 256 or 512 MB xd card

I did lots of research and mulled over this decision for a while before buying this one for $365 and only $30 more for a 2-yr. extended warranty. Considered Pentax and Kodak Dx6490, which actually rates higher in Consumer Reports. They must be on crack after trying out the zoom on both, its obvious that Kodak is more of a play lens and Olympus' is a quality product. Asking camera store staff, Olympus gets 10X the respect.

I'm a pretty novice photographer, and I found it well-laid out and easy to use. We took it to Cancun, Mexico and after a little rifling through the manual on the plane my wife and I were using it confidently right off the plane. It even got poured on at Chichen Itza and it was fine. Great compatibilty with Pictbridge, USB or card readers.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Fast. Excellent picture quality and color. Comfortable to hold, lightweight, sturdy. Excellent flash. Zoom is outstanding.

Weakness: Software is pretty much useless. Instruction booklet doesn't give complete instruction such as explaining that you need to be in "P Mode" to access the menu that they show in the booklet.

This little camera is really impressive. I wanted a small lightweight, long zoom camera to use easily in auto mode. This camera exceeds all my expectations. It is very fast to focus. I was surprised I could get sharp pic's at 10x (380mm) most of the time. Even shooting leaves at the top of a tree with the wind blowing, it still captured a clear shot without using a tripod. I'm amazed at the pictures I've gotten at night in the house on Auto. The camera adjusts to whatever lighting you have i.e. florescent etc. so skin tones are natural, clear and sharp. During the day, it automatically adjusts for backlighting. I took a shot of my husband standing in front of a window with the sun steaming through and it was perfect. Pretty awesome! I was concerned that the built in flash would not be enough light and that I would be sorry I didn't wait for the 770 that has the hotshoe but this 765 does a great job, no need for the extra flash. The viewfinder is very clear and bright, easy to see and so is the LCD. I would highly recommend this camera.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10x zoom, small for a camera of this type, easy to use controls (once you learn them), numerous picture options, nice LCD screen, metal body, powerful flash

Weakness: software is not the best, the manual is very brief, 16 MB XD card that is included is about worthless

After much research, I decided on the Olympus C-765 digital camera. This camera is my second digital camera, so I do have some experience with them (although I am far from an expert). This camera takes great pictures both indoors and outdoors (indoors was a problem with my previous camera). Again, I'm not an expert, but the quality of the pictures is outstanding to me. The 16 MB XD picture card that comes with the camera is just enough to get you started, but you will need a much larger card to take advange of this camera's abilities. The manual, again, gets you started, but you have to figure out a lot on your own. I usually learn by self-discovery anyway, so it is not a big deal to me. The software that comes with the camera is easy to install, but does try to take over as the "multimedia" program for your computer (you can easily "uncheck" all of the install options though). The performance of the software is okay, but I have seen better. Neither the software nor the manual should deter anyone from buying the camera however. I've used it to take pictures of birds at the top of trees and words on a piece of paper across the room. The zoom is truly amazing and makes the camera fun to use. I haven't had the camera very long, but I have not put it down since I got it. If you want a camera with a powerful optical zoom, then this camera is a no-brainer.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: great zoom, fine images, long battery life with rechargables (do not use any other type battery except in emergency)

Weakness: macrofocus hard to use, lens attachments to provide wide angle do not work well (optional) don't even consider this camera without buying at least a 125 meg card

A year of heavy use - more than 2000 images - has turned me into a "shutterbug". With this camera you can get shots others can only dream about or have to have extreme patience and expertise to capture. From pocket to a full telephoto shot of a buck running across a field 500 yards away takes about 3 seconds and then you can shoot 10 shots in 6 seconds! The only disadvantage this camera has is the lag time from hitting the shutter to the time it releases the shutter and takes the picture. All digital cameras have this lag and if you are used to shooting an SLR you will find this takes some getting used to. If this is a critical factor - the Canon cameras are faster (less lag) but they do not have the optical zoom capability and for me that was more important. I have taken art photo quality images of driftwood, rocks, flowers, that are simply amazing to all that see them. Family photos are a blast and it's so easy to use free software you can download from HP and Adobe to select just the images you want and convert them to a pdf file slide show you can send to anyone. Forget the included software. And you do not need to spend the big bucks on photoshop. The free 2.0 version is fine unless you want to turn pro - but the HP download is even better and has features that Adobe makes you pay for!

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Outstanding picture quality and zoom capability! Plus I appreciate the camera's small size and sleek design.

Weakness: The resolution of the viewfinder/monitor is not great (but it is acceptable). Set on auto focus, it is sometimes difficult to get the camera to focus on the proper subject.

For the price, this camera has everything that we wanted including manual modes, 10x optical and 4x digital zoom, very good reputation for picture quality. We compared similarly priced Canon and Nikon models, but couldn't find all of the features that we wanted for the same price.

Our first use of this camera was nighttime nature photography (equipped with just this camera and a flashlight) and we were stunned by how excellent the photos were. Picture quality, resolution and color balance were right on.

We have only just begun to experiment with all of its features but are extremely pleased thus far.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 10x Optical Zoom. Tons of customizable features. Raw image writing support. Lithium Ion battery. Included strap and lens cap. Bright LCD backpanel. Very small, and light. Very neat flash flipper.

Weakness: Hard for people new to digital imaging to get familiar with the camera. Boot up and photo-shoot times are a little on the long side. Included 16MB XD card too small.

I think this is a great camera. Its small and lightweight, and easy to carry around thanks to the included strap. The included lens-cap is a nice little piece of lockable plastic to protect the lens; it ties onto the strap so it shouldnt be lost.
Battery life is good.
The included 16MB XD card is entirely too small for any standard user, especially if Raw images are desired. Id suggest a good 128MB or 256MB card. It supports up to 512MB or so i read.
The camera has tons of features to play with. Simply amazing.
The image quality is great. Compared to other 10x optical zoom cameras, based on pictures on the web, this camera produces the highest quality images (outside of other olympus 10x optical zoom cameras).
The flash is locked away in a nice little compartment that flips up with the push of a button.
The unit is Mass Storage Class. So if you have Windows XP or 2000, no extra drivers are required...just need a USB port.
Included in the package is an svid cable to hook up to the TV. Havent used it yet, but im sure i will in the future.

If you are hoping to do a lot of shooting at 10x, id recommend the purchase of a tripod.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Excellent picture quality, 10X zoom is smooth, compact size, metal construction, full manual control, easy to operate

Weakness: Operating manual in PDF form, small XD card, no case

I purchased this camera about 3 weeks ago and can not say enough about the quality of this camera. The picture quality is exultant and the zoom is fantastic! The menu is easy to use after you have worked with it awhile. The camera has a great feel and is small, for having such a large zoom. The zoom is smooth and quiet which makes it great for taking close up shots of birds and other wildlife. It is a great “point and shoot” camera but allows for complete manual operation also. The panorama feature allows for great landscape shots. I looked at all the ultra zoom cameras and feel that the Olympus C765-UZ is the best choice for the money.

This review describes the camera as having a metal body; another describes it as having a plastic body " ... as opposed to the 770 model with metal". I wish you would resolve the question and edit or annotate the review with the error.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Good price, easy to use with predefined shooting options for night time, portrait, scenery, sports shooting as well as automatic and manual settings (for the camera experts), 10x optical zoom.

Weakness: Some difficulty focusing in low light situation. Long lens needed for zoom makes it a little awkward to handle so you wouldn't buy it if you didn't need the 10X zoom.

We bought the camera in preparation for a trip to Alaska so the 10X zoom was important to us. We got a good "Mardi Gras Kit" package price including the camera, 256MB memory card, extra battery, screen protector (doesn't stay on well), carrying case, cleaning kit and pocket tripod from Electric Sam. All our experiments with the camera have gone well other than focus problems causing blurry pictures when we tried to take pictures of some flowers in the evening. It does take some practice to distinguish between the focus click and the stronger click needed to snap a picture so in the beginning we missed taking some pictures. The ability to take short movies (up to 12 minutes with our memory card) is neat.

The zoom feature is easy to use and we expect to use it extensively on our trip.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Small size, 10x zoom, picture quality, having the ability to: set up 4 "My Mode" customized settings, force a flash, add sound to a picture and rotate & crop pictures on the camera.

Weakness: Printed basic manual (Although the full manual on the CD is great and can be printed), can't playback recorded sound from camera, Camedia software could be better, but it is very useable.

This camera is fantastic! For the money, it is a high quality camera, with extensive features that work. The camera feels solid and is very light and compact. With 4 megapixels, you can get high quality prints up to 11x14. The new TruePic TURBO Image Processor gives you a fast startup and there is less shutter delay then the older models. The 10X zoom is smooth, quiet and quick.

The nice thing is that the camera can be used in the auto mode, which is basically a point and shoot camera. Or if you want to use more advanced features, you can use the manual modes to adjust aperture and shutter speed. The camera has several different shooting modes, which automatically adjusts camera settings for the specific type of situations such as fast moving action, taking pictures at night and taking pictures of scenery. It also has 4 "My Mode" settings that allow you to customize and preset 33 different functions that work best for you.

The flash has several different settings: automatic, red eye reduction, fill-in flash and slow sync modes. The fill in flash allows you to force a flash on sunny days, so you can eliminate shadows on people’s faces. Some cameras won’t allow you to force the flash, if the camera senses that you do not need it.

I have had no problems with focusing, as was mentioned in another review. You actually have several focusing options. You can set the camera to adjust the focus based on the entire picture image or based on the subject within the AF target mark. You can use the camera with fulltime auto focus on or when it is off, you press the shutter button halfway to focus. If all else fails, it does have an option to manually focus the camera using the arrow buttons.

Transferring images and movie files to your PC is quick and easy via a USB port. The camera is able to capture sound with pictures and video and that will transfer to your pc for playback. The sound on a picture is handy for those times you take a picture of a river or famous place and you want to remember what it is. Simply turn on the mic and say “This is the Tiber River”.

If you want to learn all the features, I suggest that you print the manual that comes on the CD. It is way better then the basic manual that comes with the camera. Then you can take it on a trip to refer to, when you want to use some of the advanced features, you do not use often. I was able to get two manual pages per each side of paper and printed it on both sides of the paper. This allowed me to get the 216 page manual down to 54 sheets of paper.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with this camera.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: size of the lense!! because it has a large lense, it absorbs the light better! which means able to take GREAT photos! plus the shutter speed is so fast you feel like you are using professional cameras

Weakness: wish it was a little bit lighter. not saying it is heavy, though...

I HIGHLY recommend this camera to people who desires to have a better quality, faster shutter speed camera yet has limited budget.

It was beyond my expectations!!
I just love it.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Camera takes very high quality and sharp 4MP photos. You have to love the 10X optical zoom on the C-765. The camera hooks up to the computer without drivers and is detected easily. Blazing pre focus!

Weakness: The time from when you push the shutter button to when the picture is taken can be up to a second in low light as the camera searches for focus. (The lag when prefocused is less than .2 sec though!)

The C-765 is a great camera for what I wanted it for, taking pictures of far objects. Until you have used a 10X zoom you cannot truly appreaciate how versatile it is!

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: 5 star Everything works great!

Weakness: none Even the batteries are long lasting!

I have taken well over 600 pictures with the camera and have found it works well both indoors and out. It is very easy to use in the auto mode which takes almost no instruction. The telephoto is terrific and would not want a camera without one now that I have used it. The video camera is neat but uses up a camera card fast, however you get plenty of time with a 512 card.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: zoom, picture quality, no drivers needed (camera shows up as a drive on your computer)

Weakness: battery charger perhaps

This camera can be summed up in one word - "WOW"! The picture quality is simply amazing. So far I've mostly just set the mode dial to AUTO, adjusted zoom as necessary, and snapped the pictures. They've turned out great! Outdoors AND indoors! My previous camera, a Canon S200 was an okay camera, but the pictures often turned out to dark and/or the gamma setting wasn't correct. Thus I found myself tweaking the brightness/contrast/gamma in Photo Editor, which helped, but often times you could tell it was tweaked. This Olympus camera provided a much more natural look - 'cause it WAS natural!

As for the zoom, it too, is amazing just like everyone says. So far I've snapped pictures of all kinds of birds (robin, duck, seagull, crane), a rabbit, and a deer too! Just for fun I did a before-and-after-zoom on the rabbit, and without the zoom you could BARELY tell it was there. With the 10x zoom it was like I was hovering right over it with the camera - right in its face!

As for image stabilization, I haven't used a tripod yet. I did try playing around with taking pictures while dark outside, and this is a time where you would DEFINITELY need one because the camera takes several seconds before actually taking the shot. Otherwise, so far I've used the full 10x zoom just fine while outdoors (haven't had the need much while indoors).

The only thing I haven't quite figured out is the battery charger. When I first got it, I was at work, so I decided I'd charge the battery so it was ready to go when I got home. After about an hour I checked on the status and the light was green already! However, ever since then, I have tried 3 different outlets in my apartment, and after over an hour, the light is still red. I unplug it, plug it in a different outlet, it turns red for a second then green. I try a different outlet - same thing. So I don't know how long it takes to charge or if there is some kinda flaw with the charger. I have had problems with some of my outlets on my Canon charger, so I made sure to try in an outlet that worked fine with that charger - and still had problems. So far the battery still works just fine though.

Other than that, a great camera - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Way to go Olympus!

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Good candidate for low budget customers, has great flash & clarity.Consume less power & is handy

Weakness: User manual needs to be more exhaustive and simpler. Also the battery indicator displays as hald used at the very onset, but the battrey life losts longer.

I would recommend this product for serious or casual photographers. Its an awesome camera and I am impressed by it. The optical and digital zoom is a killing thing and you would be impressed by its clarity in the first shot itself. I surfed over 1,000 camera's and then found this one as the best bet.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: small, great 10x zoom, small, simple and easy controls, great macro shots, overall excellent

Weakness: screen on back washes out in sunlight but the viewfinder shows same thing and is clear. Memory cards could cost less.

I have used a Canon EOS 7E and have 5 lenses for it. A great camera - but I wanted something light and with good zoom capacity. I liked the Kodaks 10x camera - bigger viewer on back and it was brighter but I settled on the Olympus 765 - am not sorry. I am a big fan of B&H Photo in NYC. They may be a bit more for cameras but they are less for accessories, memory cards, etc. Overall the same. They are in stock, ship promptly and are completely hassle free. I got the Tamrac case they suggested that holds camera, cards and the needed spare battery.

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Multi-functional, ultra zoom, small, fabulous results.

Weakness: Owners manual does not give enough detail.

This camera is relatively easy to use, and produces very high quality results, even from beginners. Took a bit of getting used to, but after a few photo-taking sessions, was on my way to taking photos all my family and friends wanted to see.
It's a great camera in a manageable sized package. Love it!

Olympus Camedia C-765 4 Megapixel Bridge Camera

Strengths: Price, Image quality, Zoom lens, features.

Weakness: Auto Focus, Battery life.

Obviously 2 days is not a significant amount of time to really give a full review to any new digital camera. But I have spent many hours over the last 2 days trying :)

First off, I got this camera from Electric Sam online for $380 shipped. At that price, I think this camera is unbeatable. I have owned a Nikon 995 for the past 2 years and also a Canon S50. I bought this camera for my Father as a retirement gift and wish I had bought a second one for my self now. The image quality is excellent, at high ISO the noise is very even and film like. The auto settings are very usable (something that always astounds) although it's not as point and shoot friendly as the Canon S50. The lens quality is superb. Even at 10x, the images look crisp and clean.

As I mention in my "weaknesses", the auto focus can take a little coaxing to lock, and it often does not lock well in low light. The battery life is pretty mediocre as well, a second battery is a must have.

Over all, this camera is a steal. For under $400 I am pretty sure nothing comes too close. Although, if you don't need a 10x zoom, the Canon s60 might be unmatched. The s50 still has the best image quality of any digital camera under $1000k that I have seen. And it is more point and shoot capable than the Olympus.

Strengths: Excellent photo quality, 10xopt zoom, comfort of use, full manual controls

Weakness: No AF assist lamp, sometimes lens rocks in the barrel, no IS

ive used this camera for seven months and am very happy with its performance! Excellent photo quality. good macro quality. i did a lot of research before buying and opted for c-765. ive got few 10/ 14 sized portraits printouts and the result is strikingly impressive. the 10xopt lens offers proffesional quality portraits(the max aperture aval at full zoom is 3.2). wide angle result is also good. u can save your fav manual setings in the MY MODE option.
i would love to give this camera ten out of five stars only if it performed good in low light conditions. low light focusing is terribly bad........one gets frustrated trying again and again to lock focus! indoors is not that bad but outdoors at night...dont ask! OK...; u can overcome this by switching to manual focusing and its a pretty handy option avalaible. Image stabilization would have been nice like in the panasonic dmc series(but im not sure how well they lock focus with a range of only 1.5 meters). ive studied that the dmc series as well and i think those cameras under perform in pure pic quality (due to noise levels) when compared to c-765.
also, full range of shutter speed is only aval in the M(full manual) mode.
Overall: A WONDERFUL BUY!!! Strongly recommended. incase u r double minded and stuck between choices and not sure how the panasonic dmc fz20 will perform in reality(range of af assist lamp and the noise levels)..........simply go for c-765(in case u need external flash, then c-770). u wont be disappointed!

P.S. ive not given five stars only due to low light focusing issues. option for 4.5 stars not offered.

Olympus Camedia C-765 UltraZoom

The Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom is a nice 4-megapixel digicam with loads of features, good image quality, and a 10x optical zoom lens. It lacks the flash hot shoe that the C-770 model has for use with external flash units, but is otherwise a very full-featured camera, with all the exposure control one could ask for. Overall, a nice long-zoom camera in a surprisingly compact case.
