Samsung S1050 Perfect P&S Camera

Strengths: Nice body, Big LCD, 5x optical zoom, excellent macro

Weakness: no optical view finder

Samsung S1050 is a point and shot camera with 10 megapixels and 5x optical zoom. This size is perfect for me to carry it all the time and get it to take a photo anytime and anywhere. The picture taken from this camera is wonderful. The movie clip captures at high resolution upto 800x592 and quality is good too. The nice function is the instant playback that can view photo even when the power is off. I used 2x AA rechargeable 2650 mAh and this camera can take a photo up to 169 pictures with preview after shot and 20% of using flash. This is enough to use for one day long. Overall, perfect camera for everyone.

RAD CAMERA

Strengths: CRISP , STUDIO QUALITY PICS- CAPTURED DROPS OF WATER FROM BABY BATHTIME --LOOKS LIKE LITTLE DIAMONDS- INCREDIBLE! TAKEN OVER 2,000 PIC ALL great

Weakness: EATS BATTERIES- USE LITHIUM BATTERIES. VIDEO NOT SO HOT.

I LOVE THAT YOU CAN ZOOM/CROP UP TO 14 X AN ALREADY TAKEN PIC ("TRIMMING" ON CAMERA) AND - YOU CAN RETAIN THE ORIGINAL SHOT TOO. MAKES FOR INCREDIBLE CLOSEUPS!! SEE STRENGTHS ABOVE.
BRILLIANT CAMERA WORTH EVERY CENT.
FLASH IS ALWAYS BEST EVEN IN A WELL LIT HOME

ENJOY!

Beter cousin of S1000

Strengths: Big LCD display, fast powering-up, 5x optical zoom

Weakness: No visor, e.g. shorter battery life, picture quality with high ISO

This budget camera is to replace my pocket S1000 (also Samsung 10 MP camera). It has a more powerful optical zoom (5x vs most common 3x). I would prefer also it to have an option to disable digtal zoom which I always disable on all digital cameras. I agree, that stabilization is useless - it is just increases ISO at the expense of severe granulation of image. In the daylight and decent internal light condition the picture quality is very good. Menu is friendly and setup is very intuitive.

Top value at the price

Strengths: The camera feels solid and-well made and is comfortable in the hand, The large 3" LCD takes up most of the back of the camera. The 5x optical zoom is more useful than the usual 3x.

Weakness: The auto shake reduction is not a true anti-shake system. It merely increases the ISO and hence shutter speed automatically, resulting in higher noise.

An excellent camera that takes quality pictures. It is not really tiny or especially light but it is particularly good value for money. I would recommend this product to anyone.

camera for everybody

Strengths: 3.0" LCD, full on-board setting display

Weakness: navigation through menus

images taken are very sharp under limited lighting environment without the need for further setting; decent battery life; it would be a bonus if samsung ships with the AC cable included

wonderful 3.0 screen

Strengths: battery life long

Weakness: shutter speed slow

having a simple to use camera with a large screen has helped me take better pictures. the size fits easy in your hands and does not take up much room

Simply Superior - Samsung S-1050

Strengths: Multiple Exposure modes - 10.1 Megapixel - Large viewing screen

Weakness: None notable

This represents an upgrade. I had a Samsung Digimax-A50 (5.0 megapixels). The optics on this S-1050 will meet the needs of most amateur photographers. I recommend using rechargeable batteries. I note after taking shots under various conditions that when shooting higher megapixel shots what you lose on capacity on your storage media you more than make up for with ability to print larger photos with no loss of quality - At 7 or greater megapixels you get a print without graininess. I recommend this item without hesitation-reservation. Thank you.

A lot of bang for the buck

Strengths: price, features, large LCD

Weakness: battery life

I just purchased this camera last month. I shopped long and hard and visited every website on photography that ever existed, plus every brick-and-mortar photography store in town. I selected it b/c I wanted a pocketable camera w/some decent zoom, more megapixels (my old one has 7), a bigger LCD screen, that would still take SD cards and AA batteries (getting rarer and rarer). I paid less than $200 online.
So far, the pictures have been pretty darn good, and under some difficult shooting situations (like my daughter's play, where she's moving about onstage and I'm in a dark auditorium). I'm no photography expert, just a mom who wants great pictures of her kids, and vacations, and some "artsy" stuff as well. My mom (who generally shoots great pics) and I took pics in the same situation (the play), and hers were a blurry mess w/her year-old Nikon Coolpix L-something. The Samsung's Anti-Shake Reduction technology really makes the difference.
Even the video seems like pretty good quality.
Some small complaints:
--The batteries do run out fairly fast, so always carry spares and invest in rechargeables if you haven't already!
--The real manual is on CD only, which is annoying -- I don't want to print out 102 pages; it is too much to ask for THEM to do it? But whatever. A small basic one is included, to get you started.
--The measurements listed on every single website (including Samsung) are just wrong. They don't include "protrusions", and so what good is that? The protrusions are indeed THERE! So I painstakingly measured the camera (when in between sixteenths I rounded up), and here are the REAL measurements:
W: 4 3/16 in. H: 2 9/16 in. D: 1 3/4 in
So, overall, I really like it a lot so far. A lot of bang for the buck.

Samsung S1050 (silver)

THE GOOD: Manual exposure controls; face-detection features are useful. THE BAD: Slow to shoot; photos are filled with noise at all but the lowest sensitivity settings; face detection is unreliable in low light. THE BOTTOM LINE: The 10-megapixel Samsung S1050 has lots of neat features, but its photos come up lacking.
