Other than relatively short...

Strengths: 5X optical zoom with excellent macro capabilities; 7.4M pixel. Manual controls. Excellent photo quality. Good movie mode. large 2.0" LCD screen.

Weakness: a run time of less than 2 hours with a fully-charged battery. xD card is expensive and panorama option is only available when you're using Olympus-branded xD-Picture Cards.

Other than relatively short battery life and the expensive media cards, I like this camera a lot. Its menu is user friendly. It is small and light-weighted compared to other digital cameras in the same category. The 2” LCD looks great and is definitely a plus. There are quite a few shooting modes including auto. On one hand, it is quite easy to operate for people who love point and shoot; on the other hand, It has lots of advanced features for enthusiasts. The pictures are very clear and sharp. All in all, a great little camera.

Its a great camera for its compact...

Strengths: Great pictures, good battery life, small size for 5x camera

Weakness: Only supports 20 seconds of video at 30fps at 640x480

Its a great camera for its compact size, number of megapixels (7), and optical zoom (5x). There is some barrel distortion at the widest setting. It also is subject to camera shake at the highest zoom level if your hands are not steady. However the shutter speed priority can be used to help prevent that. The battery door seems a little flimsy and it may break if you are not careful. Also the flash pops up right where you would normally place your finger. It takes a while to get used to holding it differently.

Nice camera

Strengths: Small and light. The LCD screen is sharp. Photo quality is excellent.

Weakness: Sometimes the shutter speed the camera chooses in auto mode is too slow, which results in blurry pictures if no tripod is used. Battery life is shorter than expected.

This camera is good for those who are used to point and shoot cameras and for those who are more advanced in photography. In general, I am happy with the quality of the photos and with this camera. Video lengths are limited only by the size of the xD card and the quality you choose (HQ, SHQ, SQ1, SQ2).

Overall i am very satisfied with...

Strengths: small and compact, better zoom range, sharp picutures great quality and great value of money

Weakness: Like most of the other views this one uses XD card which is cost compared to CF and SD. No manual with the package. Just a CD to look for the instructions on advanced operations.

Overall i am very satisfied with this great little camera. This is my first camera and i really love it. good brand and excellent picture quality and surely recommended.

I got this camera recently and...

Strengths: Awesome optical and Digital zoom. Great features. Nice flash. Pictures are amazing if you set the picture selector properly. Great camera.

Weakness: Bulky. A little big to hold but still alot better then previous cameras with this much zoom. Pricey but you get what you pay for.

I got this camera recently and takes great picture. A little pricey but for 7 mega pixel at this point i guess is going price. Once you understand how to set the functions properly to take pictures, camera takes great pictures and print amazing pictures. 30x total zoom is great. Glad to see no AA battery but a re-chargeble. Make sure to get a big XD card if you want to take alot of pictures. images are big in sizes.

OLYMPUS C-7000

Strengths: WAS VERY SHARP AND CLEAR TILL IT QUIT ADJUSTING FOR LIGHT INTENSITY

Weakness: WORKED GRAT FOR 3 WEAKS, THEN STARTED TO GET WASHED OUT. FINALLY THE PICTURES WERE ALMOST SOLID WHITE. RETURNED IT TO COSTCO AND GOT A 100% REURN OF THE MONIES I SPENT.

OLYMPUS NEEDS TO DO MORE RELIABILITY AND LIFE TESTING BEFORE THEY RELEASE CAMERAS FOR SALE! THIS IS THE ONLY DIGITAL CAMERA I HAVE EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH. REALLY MESSED UP MY HIGH SIERRA TWO WEEK CAMPING TRIP. NO PICTURES TO BRING HOME!

Overall, couldn't have been...

Strengths: Amazing clarity in pictures; great form factor; 5X optical zoom; insane amount of features; Multiple photo save options; great support network; overall a very high end camera in a small package

Weakness: Weak proprietery battery (cannot use AAA). Weak flash but works good indoors. Un-intuitive focus shutter release button. LCD screen is not transflective-sometimes it's hard to see in bright daylight.

Overall, couldn't have been happier with this digital camera. The pictures are just amazing. Print outs from the high res at *mart stores is as good as it can get. Its menu is user friendly. It is small and light-weighted compared to other digital cameras in the same category. Overall, I highly recommend it.

This camera is rated by most sites...

Strengths: Great small camera, and I love the 5X optical zoom.

Weakness: I sometimes have to hunt for menu options, and my wife has to remember to open the flash.

This camera is rated by most sites as an advanced camera, but I consider it a point and shoot with a ton of advanced options. As one of the smallest advanced cameras out there, I get everything I want in an advanced camera with the features of a compact point-and-shoot.

I reccomend Olympus to all my...

Strengths: This camera is HOT. It is much smaller, faster, better zoom range, and, better built than the competition. I forgot to mention the awesome lens. Next to this, Canon is a flimsy brick.

Weakness: Some say the xD card, but it has been wonderful, easily found, easy to carry and very fast transfers. Guess you could want a long lens option or wider, but at what sacrifice? Size? NO! I love IT!

I reccomend Olympus to all my friends, it works, the company is great to work with. They have a great web site with a school that helps with learning. Most of all I love the unobtrusive quality, color ballance and simplicity of use. The speed of the camera to turn on, and then the instant response is better than any other brand I have seen. Obviously, Olympus lenses are legendary! I have never had a problem with any of my cameras from this company!

I bought this Olympus C-7000...

Strengths: This camera is small and compact, and is a great value for money.

Weakness: It uses xD Picture Card, which costs slightly more than the SD and SM memory cards.

I bought this Olympus C-7000 camera, as it is reputed to be the world's smallest 7.1 megapixel, 5x optical zoom digital camera. It has many sophisticated features, and allows new digital camera users like me to take clear concise photos. This camera is perfect for using outdoors, as it is compact and lightweight.

A great camera if you're looking...

Strengths: Small and light. Great resolution (7 MP). Good optical zoom for a compact camera (5x). Large LCD screen. Fully compatible with the new 1 GB xD-Picture cards.

Weakness: Camera lens is kind of loud (when zooming and out). There's no great place to rest your left index finger on the top of the camera when snapping shots without blocking the flash.

A great camera if you're looking for high resolution shots and a camera with a higher-than-normal optical zoom for a compact camera. Large LCD looks huge on this small camera. Reasonably priced, attractive camera whose only design flaw is a lack of a resting place for your left index finger.

I have used and enjoyed Olympus...

Strengths: Very compact and lightweight.

Weakness: Some parts like battery door connection seem fragile.

I have used and enjoyed Olympus products for years. My wife had wanted a compact but full featured digital camera for a while. The C7000 zoom really fits the bill. It's easy enough for the novice but sophisticated enough for the high end amateur. It certainly needs a larger memory card than that provided, so expect to pay an additional $50 for the 512 mb Olympus XD card, but for the total package price you really can't beat it.

Great camera, great price, and a...

Strengths: You can pull it out of the box and start using it immediately, it's that easy to use. If you really want to get into the nitty-gritty details the extended manual is there on CD too.

Weakness: The flap that opens/closes to cover the battery and memory card could break easily - it seems a little flimsy.

Great camera, great price, and a rebate. Excellent optical and digital zoom capabilities. I haven't made any prints with the photos yet, but from viewing them on the computer, they look awesome. High quality and resolution.

By peedlepossie - Jun 19, 2005

This is an excellent camera. The...

Strengths: Excellent high res photos. Very little down time between shots (about 1 second) and turns on extremely fast. Very small and light camera.

Weakness: 5x zoom without image stabilization is into tripod territory, so unless you have an extremely steady hand, you might have some blury shots at max zoom.

This is an excellent camera. The image quality, speed, size, weight, and LCD screen size are all at the top of the 7 megapixel class. The menu system is not as user friendly as some I have seen, but that is a minor complaint. The most significant drawback is focusing in low-light situations. The camera has trouble focusing and "searches" for several seconds. Again, this is a minor problem as I rarely shoot in extremely low-light situations.

Although a little bit heavier and...

Strengths: Sharp pictures, compact size, versatile functions with 5X optical zoom, shutter or aperture priority, self-timer, and date print that can satisfy photographers beyond amateur level.

Weakness: The flash and the zoom are not operative when taking pictures in macro mode. A manual with detailed information of camera operation is not provided in the package.

Although a little bit heavier and bulkier than the digital camera (Fuji F700) that I already own, this Olympus C7000 is truly an elegant and versatile machine. Almost every idea you have in mind, the camera can do it faithfully, in addition to the 5X optical zoom, self-timer, and date print that many other 7MP digital cameras are not equipped with. I have already tried to take pictures in every mode the camera is designed for; the pictures are crystally clear and the color is true to life. However, when you take pictures in macro mode, the zoom and the flash are not available. The most inconvenient feature is that the package has just a basic, really very basic manual. For whatever else you want to do, you need a computer to load the instruction from the CD which contains the detailed information. Nevertheless, the camera itself is worth every penny you have spent for a 7.1MP digital camera of this compact size. I highly recommend it.

This is my first digital camera. I...

Strengths: Compact, very good movie mode, clear pictures

Weakness: Can not figure out how to reduce red eye, even when using the setting. Pictures still come out blurry.

This is my first digital camera. I been using film cameras since the early 80s when I was 7 or 8. I am very picky and spent the entire month of Jan. researching different cameras and played with so many models. Almost when for a Kodak Easy Share (their latest model) because of the ease of the menus and 10x optical. However, I found this C-7000 to take clearier pictures and its compatc size works well to carry around.
I have never ha dso many blurry pictures though and can not figure out why yet. Red eyes are still common, even with the flash setting set to help.
The movie setting is very good. I never needed to have DVD quality. This movie mode does very well, and even zooms in and out, for a digital camera. Works out great for me.
Still, I got much to learn with this puppy. Even though some of my pictures do not come out well, which I never had a problem with 35mm before, but I got a few more settings to learn and play with.
Overall, very good camera, being my first one.

I bought the camera 1-2 weeks ago,...

Strengths: Slight, small, high quality, in reasonable price for a 7M megapixel and 5x optical zoom camera.

Weakness: The xD card is not very popular. By the way, I used to use canon cameras, so the operation of this olympus camera seems a little more complicated.

I bought the camera 1-2 weeks ago, and I am very happy with it. It is claimed as the smallest 7M and 5x camera in the world, and also has a quality feel with tight controls. Many advanced features are left for me to further explore. The print out picture is amazing. Overall, it is a great camera to buy. Highly recommended.

My first digital camera. Some of...

Strengths: The 2.0 screen size is great, as well as the 5x zoom. The price is also great for a 7.1 megapixel digital camera.

Weakness: Must remember to open flash. Should have come with a cradel to place camera on to recharge instead of removing battery.

My first digital camera. Some of the pictures come out blurry, maybe after getting to know the camera better and alittle practice that will improve.

Strengths: it is the great camera i have used. it has strong image support and the color is good, even in the low light situation.

Weakness: a little heavy.

recommand to use. it is a great camera in this pixel area. good brand and excellent picture quality. only concern is XD card, sometime it is expensive to get one 256mb card.

easy to handle and easy to use.

Compact and sleek camera...but...

Strengths: Compact n sleek.lot of features.value for money at sub 300's.large 2.0" semi-transmissive LCD for amazing image review.7.1 MP/5x Optical/6x digital zoom...Are you kidding me???Awesome features

Weakness: most of us will forget using Flash since its not an in-built feature. Some pictures come amazing....Some are blurry???Why???the technical team had no idea...Their advise: i shud try different features

Compact and sleek camera...but using (or forgetting to use it) cud be a problem. Some pictures are blurred (these pictures were taken under the same conditions...Still can't make out why!!!

Its compact and has an amazing LCD as well as many features. its got 7.1 MP/5x Optical/6x digital zoom...But here is the deal...buy it only under $300...if you have enough dough i wud suggest a Sony...coz it a'int worth anything more than that!!!

Cant stand this sophisticated...

Strengths: The results = the photos.

Weakness: To little people do know her.

Cant stand this sophisticated discussions anymore.
A camera has to produce perfect photos.
How, and why ? Who really cares ?

Only the result is importend, at least !?

Who delivers perfect results ?
Creative photographers - taking photos with
Olympus-cameras and lenses.

Technik freaks know much about technic, but about
photos ?

Anyway Olympus delivers both. In Perfection.

You better know what you are doing or you might get what I got.

Strengths: 7.4MP, high resolution.

Weakness: XD card is hard to find or expensive. A small learning curve on using the camera.

I did not know how to use digital camera. So when I read the manual, I expected to learn how to use different modes such as night scene, auto, portrait, etc. and different speed. However to really learn them you have to go to their CD which has the advanced manual. I tried to take pictures at fireworks at Stone Mountain, GA park on 7/4/05, however, all came out negative. It does not pick up night scene, either that or I must had at the wrong setting. The XD card is not common. Few months after I bought the camera, I noticed that there is a 8MP digital camera for price nearly what I have paid for this one.

Just bought this camera and it...

Strengths: Quality pictures

Weakness: Not big fan of the body style and wish it takes compact flash too...

Just bought this camera and it works great the picture quality is very good. It would make it perfect if the body of the camera is more smaller and remove the rubber on the side of the camera too.
After all this is a very nice camera... wish it takes compact flash.

This is a very SOLID camera!

Strengths: Metal body is attractive, durable. The ability to set everything from aperture, shutter speed, focus, expo. comp, flash comp, is very rare with P&S cameras. Li-Ion battery holds charge for weeks.

Weakness: A bit large by mid 2007 standards. Plastic tripod socket threads.

This is a very capable camera for use by advanced amateur photographers! It can perform almost anything you care to manually adjust it to do. Or, you can simply set it to AUTO focus and PROGRAM mode and use it for snapshots. Very versatile with extremely good images when handled properly. Also rare is the ability to fire from a small, hand-held, infrared remote control (Olympus model RM-2, RM-1) Great MACRO modes, too! One of my absolute favorite cameras for almost any use. Better than many newer cameras, in many respects.

My C-7000 Digital Camera Experience

Strengths: The high zoom was definatly a plus for me, plus the rechargable battery helps it to last longer

Weakness: To take a clear picture, most times the camera would have to be on a certain setting or in a certain environment

I really enjoyed this camera except for the fact that it was hard for me to get clear pictures. I recieved the Olympus C-7000 zoom for Christmas/ Birthday gift last year and just this past week I seemed to have misplaced it. As I look for new cameras it is hard to find any with the same zoom compatibility as my Olympus C-7000 'zoom' had. Through my search of a new camera I can't help but compare every other cameras' zoom to this which makes it hard to find a good quality new camera with the same size and zoom compatibility.

Not an average snap-shooter, many advanced features

Strengths: Capable of incredible picture quailty, tons of features, 5X zoom, can now be had (refurbished by Olympus) for about $200 or less. I bought mine direct from Oly on eBay.

Weakness: Slow to focus in difficult lighting situations (but it WILL focus, so I guess that's good as some cameras give up), blurry photos very possible if your hands aren't steady.

I've had this little camera for about a week and have a LOT to learn about getting the most out of it. I must admit to being a little apprehensive about my ability to master it, and I may have purchased something that's a little "over my head," as I'm a beginner with digital photography. But, the possibilities for learning makes this a perfect camera for students on a budget, or anyone who's willing to take some time and READ the advanced manual. As others have said, it comes on a CD, so I may be forced to go to Kinko's and have it printed and spiral bound. The information is extensive, and I've only just tapped into it a little at this point.

All that said, I am amazed that some of my first photos have been absolutely stunning. Colors are perfection, SO much better than what I've seen from Canon and other co.'s compacts, which is the main reason I decided to buy this. I am very picky about color, being a watercolor painter and this little guy really delivers accurate and natural color with the default settings. If you want "punchier" color, you can adjust that, too, but if you plan to play with your pics in an image editor, I'd say leave the camera to its own devices, and make any saturation or contrast adjustments later on in post-processing.

The macro feature is incredible, I know I will be using this extensively for nature and floral close-ups. "Super" macro is also available for even closer shots, but it doesn't allow any creative control. If you need to take pictures of tiny things, say for advertisements or online auctions, this feature will be invaluable though, as the results are truly pin sharp and capture amazing detail.

Read some professional reviews before you make up your mind. As a rank amateur, I'd say if you're looking for an easy "point and shooter" without having to study, you might want to pass. If you're an experienced photographer, looking for a lot of abilities in a small package, this fits the bill. If you're someone who wants to learn digital photography and don't have the budget for a DSLR or just want to carry a smaller camera, this is IT!

Olympus C7000

Strengths: Sharp, clear photos, good battery life, xD cards available.

Weakness: Flash placement, needs anti-vibration technology at 5x telephoto.

I've owned this camera for six months and have taken several thousand photos. I am thoroughly satisfied, the photos are sharp and clear, there is lots of opportunity to control the results. The flash is weak and its placement puts it in the way. On a recent week long canoe trip I took 365 shots with one battery on a one gig card at HQ quality. A spare battery is inexpensive at Key for less than $10, and 1 gig cards are available for less than $50. And it fits in my pocket. If it were only waterproof!

By artnsue - Aug 28, 2006

Should have stuck with Canon...

Strengths: Compact;nice pictures when not blurry

Weakness: I have lost more shots to inaccurate focus in 2 months than I have in 4 years with my Canon Powershot40.

I have had a Canon Powershot40 for almost 4 years. I wanted a digital camera with more megapixels, so I went with this Olympus. When the camera focuses accurately, the pictures are great, but that doesn't happen very often. Plus, it takes 5 seconds for the camera to be ready to snap the next picture. You must also open the flash-it's not automatic.

Get the xD card on eBay. I got a 512 MB for $70. The 1 GB is about $100.

I am hoping that my focus issue is just my own stupidity and that with use, my photos will be clear. If that happens, then the camera is great, if I'm too big of a doofus, then it's a complete waste!

C-7000 Olympus Digital Camera

Strengths: Small powerful camera with excellent zoom and clear pictures.

Weakness: Battery life is less than I hoped.

This camera is outstanding! I tried many different cameras and this was the best for overall size and quality. It is small enough to fit in your shirt pocket, but big in features. All of the large zoom lense cameras are too large to carry around easily as a point and shoot camera. This is the second Olympus camera for me and they are excellent! My D510, purchased about 4 years ago, never failed me and did everything I expected it to. I wanted more pixels and more telephoto is why I bought the C-7000. So far, it has done everything well. I didn't buy it for the movie feature, but it works great. For the money, this is an excellent buy.

Strengths: 5X Optical Zoom, Small and Compact, Good Price

Weakness: xD Picture Card, a little more expensive

It's easy to use, fast response.
It is a good feature of 5X optical zoom.
It's a good feature of self-timer.
The pictures are of high quality.
I highly recommend it.

Olympus C-7000

Strengths: Image quality, 5X optical zoom, Ease of use

Weakness: Autofocus slow in low light, Battery life

Lots of Mega-pixels and 5x zoom, but if you have it zoomed out all the way, you cannot take a steady picture, It blurs. Small is size, which is good. But I was really going for the zoom factor and it seems i cannot really take advantage of it. If you need a small camera with a big lens and high resolution, this is the one for you.

Overall I have found this camera...

Strengths: size; LCD

Weakness: xD card; manual pop-up flash; proprietary battery

Overall I have found this camera to be very good. On the plus side, it fits well in your hand, and the startup/picture taking times are pretty good. There are plenty of options under the menus, and there are several point-and-shoot modes in addition to being able to adjust the settings manually. On the other hand, it is annoying to have to pop up the flash manually. It also uses the xD Card form factor, which are more difficult to find and more expensive than SD or CF (plus, I have several of those already from previous cameras). I have also heard that some brands of cards don't play well with this camera, although I haven't experienced this personally.

Overall, a very good buy, especially for 7MP and 5x optical zoom.

Good camera. Takes great pictures....

Strengths: Compact for the features. 7.1mp Lots of optical zoom for its size Superb LCD screen

Weakness: Battery was ok but could of been better. Takes alittle longer than my other digi cams to auto focus in low light. I dont like the "flip-up" flash

Good camera.
Takes great pictures. At 7.1mp you can crop the heck out of your photos before printing.
5x Optical zoom in a camera this size is impressive.
The 2" LCD screen is amazing on this model. Sharp and liquid smooth.
Takes alittle longer to auto focus in low light.
Battery life could of been better.
Overall very good camera.

The camera size is perfect - not...

Strengths: 7MP, 5x optical zoom, Ease of use, Speed, Size

Weakness: Immobile LCD, Manual flash activation

The camera size is perfect - not too big, yet not so small that I will lose it! It is very easy to hold, and very lightweight - easy enough to slip it into the pocket of a jacket. Lots of Mega-pixels and 5x zoom, but if you have it zoomed out all the way, you cannot take a steady picture, It blurs. Small is size, which is good.Bottom line, if you don't mind spending a little extra, you get a high-quality camera that truly performs.
