Another great entry level camera from Canon

Strengths: Large 2.5 LCD, image stabilization, high resolution, great image quality, auto focus, competitive pricing

Weakness: Largish form factor for a "compact" camera, only takes AA batteries

I got this camera for my mom for Mother's Day to replace he old Nikon and she loved it. I had decided to get this camera for her as it has image stabilization (a must for my mom who is notorious for blurry photos) and easy to replace AA batteries. She was very pleased with the large LCD size, the built in smart picture rotating feature and face auto focusing feature. I'd recommend this camera to anyone who's looking for a high image quality entry level camera at an entry level price. For the price, it can't be beat.

Works as expected

Strengths: Auto-mode seems fine for most cases face-detection Good options for advanced photographers

Weakness: size - it's not one of those tiny digital-ELF's, but not huge either.

I'm not a heavy photographer, but I've messed around with a few of the options. Scene's seems to work well, and the auto-mode and face detection feature is pretty cool.

Quality Camera A590 IS

Strengths: very easy to use, with easy to understand instructions

Weakness: Haven't found any yet

This is a great camera. Easy to use and understand. I did not have to spend hours reading instructions before taking my first pictures. But it still has many features that I plan to learn to use in the future. It produces quality photos that were easy to download.

Canon a590 IS Digital Camera

Strengths: Compact, yet full featured. Has large LCD and also has viewfinder. Canon quality throughout.Uses AA batteries.

Weakness: Slow flash recycle.

I got this camera for my daughter to replace her older Canon. I recently bought a Canon a720is and was very impressed with the ease of use, image quality and full features. The a590 is is basically the same camera with 4x zoom at a much better price. The image stabilization is amazing. Flash is powerful, but long to recycle after full discharge. Overall another great Canon camera

Weakness: Nothing

This Camera is the best digital camera I have personally used. I used almost 6 months. This is good camera for beginners. Photo quality is very impressive. It has image stabilization that makes you no blurry pictures.

memeedovie

Strengths: Easy to use, so many features

Weakness: haven't found one yet

I love this camera. I brought it on a fishing trip and took some amazing pictures and with it. Having the stabilizer was great due to we were on a boat. Unbelievably not one blurred picture. There are so many features I can't list them all. I received it for Mothers Day, one of best gift ever. I just purchased one for my daughter for her 24th birthday.

Good quality camera

Strengths: features,cost, ease of use

Weakness: battery/memory card door

My old digital camera was getting worn and wasn't working that great. I finally decided on the Canon camera which was a new model.I am pleased with it so far. It is instinctive and very easy to use.The pictures come out clear and crisp and look great. There is an image stabilization feature which results in much fewer blurry pictures. The batteries even seem to last longer in this camera compared to my old Kodak.

The only thing that i'm worried about is the door that opens the battery compartment and memory card slot.It is a bit hard to close....maybe I just have not gotten the hang of it yet....but I just hope I don't break it.That is a minor problem though and has no effect on the performance of the camera.

For a new and up to date camera you can't go wrong with this. This is my first Canon camera after decades of using Kodak caneras and it works great.

canon digital point shoot camera A590

Strengths: canon branding quality, general features, IS feature, 8 megapixel resolution, zoom

Weakness: body/plastic construction, lcd screen exposed to scratching

I have been using an A series A85 for some time and love it. I bought this for my brother to replace an older A series as well and used it for a while before handing it over (wanted to keep it actually). Great camera. Most of us will never use the features this consumer grade camera has. However, I take comfort knowing they are there if I need them. This unit takes 2 aa batteries so generally you get few pictures out of them than my A85 which takes 4 of them. Having said that, this camera is slightly less bulky. I like the design as the battery compartnment is the handhold for the camera essentially rather than having a flat box like design where you really have nothing to hang onto. Takes high capacity sd cards or regular cards or other similar cards with adapters. This camera would be phenomenal if done in aluminum bad sadly it is not. Good camera.

Great camera

Strengths: easy to use - my ten year old figured it out right away great pictures

Weakness: supplied battery did not even last the first day

This is one fine camera for the price. My ten year old has used it to take people pictures and to shoot short videos. The down load to PC was extremely fast and the software was easy to navigate.

very good camera

Strengths: image stablizer feature, nice color

Weakness: the plastic outside feels a little bit fragile.

For everyone who wants to buy a camera, IS feature is a must. I use this camera to take photos for my baby. After loading the photos to my laptop, I love this camera immediatelly. The photos are so beautiful and clear though my baby moved a lot when I took them.

The only weakness is the plastic outside is too light. So it seems a little bit fragile.

Great Camera better than most

Strengths: Good resolution, easy to use, 4x optic + 4x dig zoom, many modes to use.

Weakness: Did not work with my NiMH 2100 mah batteries, and has no setting to use lower voltage (1.2 volt) of rechargeable instead of Alkaline batteries. The SD card is in the same slot as the batteries.

This camera takes excellent pictures in regular, macro (close), zoom and moving image. The automatic functions are easy to set and understand. Those with more expertise can use manual settings. I use my 2 GB SD and 4 GB SD cards in this camera. I like that this camera has a view finder in addition to the LCD screen. Image stabilizer works well.

So far, so good

Strengths: 8 megapixels and optical image stablizer

Weakness: none so far

I got this digital camera 3 days ago. Canon digital camera has always been a garantee for good quality. The A590IS has 8 megapixels and an optical image stablizer, which is the best kind of image stablizer. The price is relatively low among Canons and other 8 megapixels with an optical image stablizer. And it takes great pictures! No blurry pictures any more. Highly recommended!

Wonderful Camera

Strengths: Easy,convenient, stable, clear

Weakness: not sliver; black is too traditional; Expensive

Actually, I borrowed a Canon A590 from my friend and play it for several weeks during my travelling. There's not a lot about the A590 that really jumps out in an initial evaluation. What impresses more about the newest Canon A is not any specific strength, but its all-around competency. Built to a price point that often entails some serious photographic compromises, the A590 IS makes relatively few: it's fast, precise, has decent high ISO performance, meters accurately, and provides full manual control. The lens and screen could both be better, and a few more "gee whiz" features might have attracted more attention, but based on the strong reputation of its predecessor, the A590 is a wonderful camera.

Great price, fabulous service!

Strengths: Price, weight, features, price, price, price!

Weakness: Battery life

After months of trying to make a decision, I went with the A590...8 mp, IS...LOW price and I LIKE the COLOR of the camera...it's not black, it's a graphite color and pretty classy.Pics look great.

Wonderful Camera!!

Strengths: Excellent pictures-I paid $149 two years ago-various selection of photo options-easy to download on computer.

Weakness: Pictures/videos won't play on any TV when using the cords that came with camera-short battery life until I found a compatible battery for this camera.

This is my first digital camera and I enjoy it very much. I'm a beginner and still have a lot to learn.

The best battery for this camera is Duracell Powerpix. One try, and you'll be sold.

Canon A590 IS

Strengths: capable of attaching wide-angle lens converter Battery life indicator gives very ample low battery warning

Weakness: Discontinued model (should not have been discontinued!)

Picture quality exceeds that of my Nikon Coolpix P50 & easier to use menus. Canon Zoom Browzer software is easier to use than that provided with my Nikon.

Canon PowerShot A590 IS

THE GOOD: Great picture quality; fast shutter speed; broad manual feature set. THE BAD: Chunky appearance; slow shot-to-shot time with the onboard flash enabled. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Canon PowerShot A590 ISs manual exposure controls and surprisingly sharp pictures make it a great choice for almost anyone looking for a sub-$200 shooter.

Canon PowerShot A590 IS Review

There are good digital cameras and cheap digital cameras - the trick is getting both in the same package. The Canon PowerShot A590 IS is one digital camera that delivers a lot of capability and good photos at a low price. We also like the fact that Canon A590IS is well-suited to both novices and advanced users. Total beginners can put it in "Easy" mode and snap away, but a full range of features...

DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot A590 IS

If you're looking for a budget camera that takes great pictures, and has all the features you could possibly desire (without too many gimmicks), then the Canon PowerShot A590 IS is absolutely worth a look. The only people that I'd caution are those who take a lot of movies or long exposures -- you might want to find a camera with a 30 fps frame rate and better low light noise performance...
