Terrible Customer Service

Strengths: Decent pictures.

Weakness: If you have a problem, Kodak customer service is the worst!

I've owned this camera since Christmas 2008 and I would agree with the other reviewers. It takes great pictures but that's where it stops.

Once I tried videos I realized that there was a lot of audio noise on the recording. It sounds like you are standing next to a busy highway even when there is no noise around. So I jumped through all of Kodak's hoops...updated the firmware adjusted the auto focus etc., and nothing worked. They asked me to send it into their repair center which is Precision Camera. The turnaround time from when I sent it in for repair and when I got it back was almost one month. And, to add insult to injury it came back with exactly the same problem it left with. I called Kodak telling them I had already been without the camera for a month and that I thought the "right thing" to do would be for them to replace it. I spend an hour on the phone with them again and even sent them a short video in which you can hear the problem. They don't care. Their standard answer is we won't replace the camera and you have to send it in again. At least this time they sent me a prepaid label.

By the way, Precision Camera (Kodak's choice as a repair center) doesn't care much about customer service either. Yes, they have a method to check the status on line but once it's in repair for 3 weeks you want to talk directly with some one. Just try this!!!! You will be on the phone for another hour just trying to get to the right person who will only tell you, “we're running a little behind”!!!

Now the repair center has it again and I expect I will be without the camera for another month. I guess Kodak recently or is still in the process of firing all their experienced customer service people and this spells disaster for Kodak customers. Due to this experience with Kodak I will never purchase another product from them..but they don't seem to care. Do some research and you will find better manufacturers who truly care about customer service and repeat business.

Good camera with horrible battery support

Strengths: Feature set, easy to use

Weakness: Battery & battery support

Does NOT come with a rechargeable battery, will have to be purchased separately. Although it does take AA's, if they are of the standard variety rechargeable you'll get at most 20 shots out of them. I don't think there is any AA rechargeable support for this camera. Also, does NOT support recharging via USB even if you buy a rechargeable battery. I returned within a couple weeks because I needed this USB recharging support (a review online claimed it had this feature and was wrong, if you want this out of a Kodak camera I suggest the V series. I now own a V1073 and I can 100% confirm it supports USB charging -- cameras.pricegrabber.c... -- www.amazon.com/Kodak-E...).

Looking beyond the recharging problems, it felt like a great camera. Tons of features, easy to use, shots looked decent from the short time I used it. I really loved the help feature -- anywhere on the camera you hit this little "info" button and it would tell you what was going on.

Bottom line: Spend an extra $50-100 for a rechargeable battery and charger, and you'll have a good camera. Not worth the money and hassle with alternatives easily available.

actually $50 to $100 is not true. i love this camera, and hate battery life as well, but you can get the kodak rechargeable battery for about $50 WITH the charger. and i suggest you buy it, because i to this day still have not gotten the low battery light, ever since i bought the battery. plug it in overnight, and you have a whole day's worth of taking pictures and videos. $50 is worth it, especially with this camera. i do agree though that it should have come with a rechargeable battery. the non rechargeable one is good though to buy some time to get the rechargeable one.

Do NOT like this camera

Strengths: Good Pics

Weakness: Kodak will NOT let you insert your memory card into your PC to transfer pictures. you MUST use THEIR Kodak Shareware to download pictures. Time consuming and a pain. Camera Drains batteries fast.

8 Emails to Kodak - 8 different answers. Returning the camera. Kodak will NOT refund the warrantee. Would NEVER buy another Kodak product again. I've NEVER heard of or had a camera with a SD card that you could not download by simply inserting it into your computer. Kodak wishes to govern your computer and your pictures. BEWARE. Waste of money & time.

untrue, I own this camera also. I can insert my memory card into my card reader and view/transfer pics without any problems.

If you bought a new memory card for the camera and it is 2GB or bigger you most likely got a new SDHC (High Capacity) card. You must have a SDHC compatible reader to read these cards. So if you bought a card reader (or you pc came with one) a few years ago most likely you have a standard SD card reader. (or if you got a cheap one that didn't specifically say SDHC)

It does however suck on AA battery life especially if using flash.

Z1085

Strengths: High mega pixel, Good zoom.

Weakness: Too bulky, short battery life.

Kodak's Z1085 can be a very good choice for All in one digital camera since it can take HD 720P video, and it has 5X zoom. Picture quality and video quality are excellent. The problem I have is battery life is so short. And it is somewhat picky on what rechargeale battery you use.

10 MP High Definition Camera

Strengths: Picture quality, HD recording. SD media card. Standard AA battery

Weakness: Short battery life, low light picture quality.

Good camera for $100, with 4GB SD card. I bought because of 10 MP and HD recording. But very disappointed with battery life. I have NiMH 2600 ma batteries but still can take only 20/25 shots with the battery. I keep spare in the pocket. Use power adapter for video recording. It's impossible to record on battery. Overall worth for the money I paid. But I was expecting something better from Kodak.

Early on I discovered Kodak CRV-3 batteries. Found some at a good price on eBay (came out to about $3 each for non-rechargeables). I get about 300 shots from these and similar numbers from rechargeable CRV-3 batteries.

Kodak Z1085 IS

Strengths: Great pictures!

Weakness: Horrible battery life!!!!!

If you get a 100 pictures from the lithium photo battery (CRV3) you will be lucky! It is terrible. Love the camera but it leaves you in the lerch way too often because the new battery you just put in is DEAD.

Bought after Christmas at half-price, so was a great deal...but am not happy with it.

DCRP Review: Kodak EasyShare Z1085 IS

Canon's PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH is a good choice for those who want a little extra zoom power from a compact camera. It offers very good photo quality (in good light), a 5X zoom lens, optical image stabilization, good performance, and plenty of point-and-shoot features -- all in a stylish package. Nobody's perfect, and that goes for cameras, too. The SD890's lens is on the slow side, its...
