Canon Digital Camera SD890 IS

Strengths: 5x optical zoom lens, greater zooms than other camera and deliver clear pictures

Weakness: style of the camera is not impressive

Canon SD890 IS has the most powerful optical zoom and delivers clear pictures at the same time. Takes great pictures even at a darker environment. Face detection is great. It tracks the subject as they move around the frame.
Light and compact.

Sd890 (ixus970 is Europe version) Great camera

Strengths: Hi Performance, very good quality made, very easy to use.

Weakness: It's Not SLR, a little bit expensive $399.

Hi Performance, very good quality made, very easy to use. Lot of features. The screen is excellent. Very powerful Optical zoom X5. The Optical image stabilizer and the motion detection Sensor working very well.
I think that except the High price that this camera cost it's an excellent camera, for sure the last word in the compact digital cameras category. The pictures I shot have excellent quality. The camera screen have Gyro that rotate the picture automatically when you view it on play mode .all the feathers are very easy to use- Canon Made. The video is not so good 640X480 and has very poor compression. I bought it with SanDisk SDHC 4GB Extreme III ($50) and LowrPro Rezo 15 (Pouch- $15). Bottom line Exelent camera but in second thought I thing I would buy the SD870 in $150 and save the Change for SLR.

2 caveats for an otherwise nice camera.

Strengths: Nice low light capability. Compact

Weakness: LCD polarization prevents use with sunglasses. Barrel Distortion is considerable!

This is the 5th Canon I've owned. I generally love their overall quality and function. I agree with most of the rave reviews about this camera, but I have TWO IMPORTANT CAVEATS that don't seem to appear.

1st: The orientation of the LCD polarization on the screen is such that when using the camera with polarized sunglasses, you can't see an image on the LCD (in the standard, horizontal position). For every other LCD camera I've used the screen is 100% viewable with polarized sunglasses. The blanking out of the screen only occurs when you rotate the camera 90 degrees (to the vertical orientation).

2nd: There is CONSIDERABLE "Barrel distortion" when using this long 5x optical zoom lens in the standard mode.

Please note: I've contacted Canon Customer Service and they say both issues are not fixable and expected given the design of the camera (UGH!)

Canon Digital Camera SD890 IS

Strengths: Beautiful pictures, image stabilization, face detection, nice zoom for a compact digital

Weakness: Body of the camera could have been a little less artsy and more functional.

I love this camera. This pictures I've taken so far have come out beautiful. The 5x zoom is great also. The only gripe I have kinda maybe is that the right side of the camera where you hold it is sloped and curvy. There's not much to hold onto when taking the picture. I haven't really had a problem with it like I've read others have, but I always use the wrist strap just to be sure I don't drop the camera. Like I said, it does take beautiful pictures and is a nice camera otherwise.

Canon PowerShoot SD 890

Strengths: Good image quality, a lot of functions, 5x zoom.

Weakness: Complicated zoom, noise while autofucisng, or after zooming or changing settings (may be related with defect of camera)

I liked this camera, this is my first digital camera, and i had done big research before i bought it. The image quality zoom and functions are very good. One problem with i faced is unnormal noise inside a camera, i do not know, why this noise comes out, may be this is camera's defect, but i gona figure out it. But in whole i like this camera!

Canon PowerShot SD890 IS

THE GOOD: Optical image stabilization; optical viewfinder; decent photos. THE BAD: Poor shot-to-shot performance; small LCD; awkward design; no optical zoom in movie capture. THE BOTTOM LINE: A solid compact snapshooter, the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS nevertheless disappoints when compared with its predecessors and line-mates.

DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH

Canon's PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH is a good choice for those who want a little extra zoom power from a compact camera. It offers very good photo quality (in good light), a 5X zoom lens, optical image stabilization, good performance, and plenty of point-and-shoot features -- all in a stylish package. Nobody's perfect, and that goes for cameras, too. The SD890's lens is on the slow side, its...

Canon PowerShot SD890 IS Review

Pocket digital cameras usually compromise on something, and it's most often the lens focal length. The Canon PowerShot SD890, however, gives you a fairly long zoom in a small package, equivalent to a 37-185mm lens, and adds optical image stabilization to help prevent blur due to camera motion. The Canon SD890 IS also has Face Detection with a new twist: the ability to track a subject's face even...
