Very Good

Strengths: Very Handy n small in size, fast start up, great battery life(no cells required), Great Shots and MPEG quality also Gud. light weight

Weakness: I didn't find any.

A very good bargain, in such a low price u get a 7.2 megapixel camera. Amazing results, v gud picture quality. All of the operations of the camera are v fast, u can switch frm picture mode to movie mode in just secs,

The Flash is also adequate as well as the zoom, It fits well in pocket or a ladies purse,

Camera is fast. Fast startup and fast focusing give you good feel and better chances to take good pictures. P200 has good Auto mode and couple manual options. Auto mode is good for the most of conditions. Camera takes great, contrast pictures during the daylight (sun, or clouds), and pretty good pictures after the sunset (depending on how you are pointing camera, they might be on darker side). In low light/almost darkness Auto mode is not that effective, but still very capable. But here all digital cameras start failing at some point… Low light in this (as in any other camera) will result in seeing some pixellation. But overall, P200 producing very low or no pixellation. I always take pictures at max resolution = 7 Mpix.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small size, fast start up, great battery life, creative controls

Weakness: None if you know what you are buying. It is not a digital SLR.

The first thing I was concerned about was the blurred photos I read about in so many reviews. Since it is a small camera, you must hold it steady in low light. There are so many manual controls, you can always get a good shot. I have had no trouble with shots being anything but great.

I took the camera to NYC for vacation and loved the results. The battery lasts longer than all day. I took it along in my pocket and never felt the least bit uncomfortable. The one thing that impressed me the most was the quick start up to first shot.

The controls are so easy, you don't have to feel like you must stay in Auto mode. I could quickly go to "movie" mode and back in a second.

The flash is very adequate for a compact. What I would recommend, and forgot to take, is a small tripod for the occasional low light shot of a church or museum.

I have used three Nikons, two Sonys and a Kodak. For a compact, the P200 is by far the best all around.

"There are so many manual controls, you can always get a good shot. I have had no trouble with shots being anything but great."
Please advise on the easiest way for a novice shooting on auto to overcome the 1/40 sec shutter default in lower light to avoid blurry picts.
Thanks

For blurry images it gives warning before only with yellow caution symbol & hand to say no. Hence try to put flash or change mode to M/P/SCN appropriately and adjust settings so that you wont get that warning again.

I got that same P200 camera and I'm proud owner of it. My friend who got other camera for cheap always got blurry images, slow image processor and sucks battery. Be proud of Sony P200. But practice before taking some important shots. I'm not a pro but demands good pictures. It serves my purpose well. I can even record videos with no time delay excellent sound. I brought this camera only because I want more battery life. It perfectly does the job. Particulary it does well when we have good light. Pictures were natural with good colors. Thanks SONY.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: An excellent upgrade from the previous p150 and p100 models with a stunning 7.2 mega pixels.

Weakness: Shutter speeds indoors and low light conditions still default to 1/40 sec...a bit on the slow side causing camera shake.

I just purchased this as a replacement from my Sony P-100 5 mega pixel camera. WOW! This camera is definitely a sleek improvement from past models. Aside from the 7.2 megapixel count, this camera excels in almost every conceivable area relevant to compacts.

First off, this camera starts up in less than a second or so--truly fast compared to other similarly priced cameras. This feature is essential when attempting to capture that oh so special kodak...er...sony moment in a blink.

Secondly, the camera is beautiful. Sony got it right this time when designing a sturdy, compact and lightweight technological masterpiece. True, it's not as small as its even lighter cousin--the T-33, or the Pentax Optio S5n and Casio Exlim models, but it passes the pants pocket test with flying colors. Additionally, when compared to the T-33, this camera uses the regular memory stick size and not the smaller duo like the T-33. Sooooo, if you already own a sony, this is a natural upgrade.

Some other excellent features on the P-200 are the manual overides. You can adjust the shutter speed and aperature which, for a camera in this class, is a true rarity.

Unlike the T-33, this cam does have a tripod mount, a no brainer for any serious photographer. I also am enjoying the extremely high quality video mode; although not the most important selling point, having the ability to take camcorder like videos with sound for unlimited amounts of time (unlike 30 second segments from many other cams) is handy.

Another amazing feature is the battery life. I remember my first sony digital camera--the DSC-P50 2.1 mega pixel. It's battery life was dismal. My P-72 was slightly improved, but still suffered from chronic battery munchies. The P-200 fully charged can take pictures for over 200 minutes! If you're on the display modes, it can last almost double that--another breathtaking accomplishment. The info lithium works well in calculating the remaining battery life--a major complaint from owners of other cameras like Canon that lack this feature. Lastly, it is a proprietary battery, so purchasing an additional one is recommended.

Needless to say, the 2" lcd is gorgeous, just like the past sony cameras I've had. It's extremely hi-res and I have no difficulty seeing it in sunlight. The lcd's navigation is similar to earlier sony cams with a few new additions. Sony finally placed a protective screen over the actual lcd to prevent damage...took them long enough, but it's much appreciated.

Overall, I'm tremendously pleased with the picture quality from this puppy. I envision this camera lasting well into early-mid 2006 when Sony will release yet another improvement. Until then, I highly recommend this for most anybody who appreciates quality and functionality incorporated into a lightweight package.

Sony DSC P200

Strengths: Excellent image quality. Great build quality. In car terms - getting this camera, is like buying a ...Lexus. Really! :D Hey, small tip: if you like nice things - get a Black one! It looks awesome!

Weakness: Hard to notice, but 3 x 2 image mode slightly stretching image - distorting faces. Not important to me, I use 7 Mpix (4x3).

I’m happy, REALLY happy with this camera. I migrated to this camera from Sony W-1 (5 Mpix). Image quality and high build quality is very important to me. P200 image quality and vibrant colors - are far better than Canon SD-500 or Nikon Coolpix 7900. I was considering these 2 cameras before buying Sony P200. Sony won hands down. Images from last trip to Hawaii are proof of that!

Sure, P200 produces excellent printouts, but usually, I don't print my images. I prefer to view them on 19” computer monitor in form of the full screen slideshow, instead staring at puny 4x6 prints. I burn slideshows on CD-R’s to share with friends. So, as for this purpose camera is very closely matching images taken by some DSLR’s (I was comparing review results available from several WEB sites). Usually, I resize original images to “compress” pixels and to get image match better my computer desktop size (1280x1024), then sharpening them a bit. What is impressive, that P200 images needs very little further correction… Sony’s in-camera image calibration is GREAT! Colors are bright and well balanced, and natural!

Images: I compared images from my old Sony 2 Mpix U-20 and fairly new 5 Mpix W-1, and I can see difference in ways Sony was progressing in handling image processing. P200 showing great improvements.

Speaking about other camera's - Canon’s images are on the “softer” side and a little yellowish, Nikon cameras producing slightly cooler images, with accent on blue and greens. This needs to be corrected with image editing software to get better results. But Sony’s P-200 images virtually needs no improvement.

This camera is fast. Fast startup and fast focusing give you good feel and better chances to take good pictures. P200 has good Auto mode and couple of the manual options. Auto mode is good for the most of the conditions. Camera takes great, contrast pictures during the daylight (sun, or clouds), and pretty good pictures after the sunset (depending on how you are pointing camera). In low light/almost darkness Auto mode is not that effective, but still very capable. TIP: small tripod will help you here. Low light in P200 (as in any other digital cameras) will result in seeing some pixellation. But with enough light, P200 producing very low or no pixels. I always use max resolution = 7 Mpix.

Optical zoom is good and not distorting image quality much. I’m practically not using Digital zoom, since it degradating image quality. This is typical to all other compact digital cameras… and I find it not not acceptable.

Video: VX Fine video mode is very good as for movie taken by digital camera. There is no anti-shake feature available (yet) for video mode. No Zoom available during shooting video… this is typical for all cameras - as of today. Hope, that Sony and other manufacturers in a year or so, will start making cameras with image stabilization for both, still pictures and video. Video quality is especially good for distances up to 50 ft. P200 in video mode is holding focus very good. Unlike my previous camera Sony W-1, which was constantly “seeking” object to fix focus on… - highly annoying behavior.

Battery: at first I was concerned that P200 is using proprietary battery (I would prefer 2 AA recheargables instead - it is more practical). But, I found that this battery lasts REALLY long time. On complete charge you can easily “survive” entire day, taking pictures and movies. Or course, as it is true with any battery types – using flash, will bring it down faster. Still, for average use, you don't really need buy a second battery. If you have charger at home or in hotel room, after day long shooting you just recharge it, and in 1,5-2 hours you are ready to shoot again.

LCD: display has scratchproof coating, which is great. You still needs to be careful with it tough. Display is very bright, easy to read and size is decent.

Memory: I use 1 GB memory Stick PRO. Strongly advise to get at least 512 MB (with 1GB optimal!), of MS PRO for fast image recording and the best movie quality. It makes BIG difference. Some people constantly complaining about MS being more expensive than other types of memory cards. C’mon, it is not THAT expensive anymore. Just, I don’t know what to do with that 32 MB stick provided with camera. It is useless for 7 Mpix cameras. To bad, Sony wasted money to produce memory so small. Better, to make 32 MB or more of "internal" memory, to speed-up in-camera processing. Personally, I still prefer not to have ANY memory card included with any digital camera.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: tiny size, 7.2megapixel, 3x optical zoom, large 2.0 lcd screen, lightweight, excellent picture, balanced color, versatile, smooth 30fps 640x480 video mode.

Weakness: none

An upgrade of the P150, launched in July, 2004 at MSRP $499. The only real difference seems to be the larger 2-inch LCD, otherwise it sports the same Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x zoom lens, is PictBridge-compatible and has a rechargeable InfoLithium battery, which could tell the remaining battery time with accuracy upto minutes, compatibility with Memory Stick and Memory Stick PRO.

I really like its silver slim exterior, and it is really light and fit in my pocket very well.

The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar len could zoom in and out at blazing fast speed, which renders into very rapid shoot, and the camera will be ready for next shoot in under 1 second even at 7.2M resolution.

Overall, it is a great high megapixel Point & Shoot Digital Camera at a great price.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 7.2 effective Megapixels Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens 3x Optical Zoom, Large 2.0" LCD Quick Operation (Start-up 1.3 sec, Shutter Time Lag 0.3 sec, Shutter Release Lag 0.01 sec)

Weakness: Maybe I'm a bit too picky here, but I would be really happy if Sony could offer a docking station for this camera or at least equip it with a seperated charger.

Blazingly Fast, it is the first thing you will notice about this camera.

as soon as you power it on, it is ready to shoot;
as soon as you half-press the shutter, its len will quickly focus on the target;
as soon as you finish one shoot, it will be ready for the next one in under 1 sec.

The new P200 model delivers extremely fast start-up and shot-to-shot times, and puts extra speed and muscle behind automatic features like auto focus and auto exposure. You'l never have to worry about missing a shot because the camera is always at the ready.

More compact than its predecessor model P150, the P200 camera slips comfortably into a shirt pocket or handbag.

The new model features a Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar 3X optical zoom lens and a generous 2-inch LCD screen, making it easy for friends and family to gather round and enjoy images the moment they are captured.

The camera is packed with features and benefits typically found on more full-sized cameras. At just one inch thin, it takes vibrant digital photos, capturing color and detail not commonly found in such a compact camera. The MPEG-VX Fine mode allows you to record true MPEG video with 640x480 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second.

Actually, there is a docking station available and it is very inexpensive compared to others (around $42.00).

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 7.2 megapixal, 2" LCD, small size, fast startup, long battery life

Weakness: maybe too small for sum, speaker in bad position, people with large hands have to be careful of the lens

This is an unbelievable camera. I love it. My old camera was a Ricoh 5000 2.3MP, so going to the Sony DSC-P200 is like night and day. This camera features 7.2MP for great resolution. It also has a large 2" screen that makes viewing your images easier. Having a 2" screen on most camera eat up a lot of battery life, but this camera has a very long battery life and the battery can be recharged within the camera. You will never miss the important shot again, because this camera can be turned on an ready to shoot in less than 2 seconds. I can't say enough good things about this camera. I really like it.

Some people may find this camera a bit too small. I did too at first. Coming from my old camera, this one seemed so tiny. However, after using if for a while, I like it and feel more comfortable with it. Now my old camera fells like a brick. A few things I did notice about this camera is that one the speaker is in a bad position. It is located on the bottom left side of the camera and just about everything, my left thumb ends up covering it up. I though my volume was to low until I realized my thumb was always covering up the speaker. I also noticed that when you turn on the camera and the lens comes out, it you are not careful, your left hand fingers my hit it, especially if you have large hands. This is something to be aware so that you do not damage your lens.

Overall this is the same camera as the DSC-P150 with some minor changes and a bit cheaper price. I really like this camera and going from my old camera, which did its job, to this new camera, I'm in love. My old camera is now retired. I would highly reccommend this camera. I got mine from DELL through one of there deals from gotapex.com and saved $70 form what the cheapest prices is now.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: quick response, bright color, slick looking, high resolution, long battery

Weakness: blurry picture with shaky hand,

Bought this two weeks ago. Very slick looking, pocket size quick response camera.
Also the battery life seems to be long lasting. Wide voltage ac adapter also helps
travelling in other countries. Auto-shut off cover to protect the lense when not used.

Very vivid color. The short vidio film is in very good quality too.

Only problem, if has shaky hand, the picture might be blurry, so need to have sturdy hand,
and memory stick card is expensive.

Wife and I am very satisfied, bought a second set today.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Great photo quality, super fast!, large LCD, great size & ergonomics, easy to use

Weakness: None

I've been using this camera for 3 months now and have nothing but good things to say about it. I've owned/used 6-7 digital cameras and this is hands down the best so far! I did have a Sony DSC-W1 before this one and suffered with the infamous blurry pictures constantly! Not so with this jewel. Plus it's smaller, small enough to be carried in my front pocket and just looks better. You can keep your Canon's, Nikon's, etc...I'll be using this P200 for quite awhile!

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Image quality, fairly simple to use, size/weight, construction

Weakness: Image quality in the corners, moving shots on defaults, low-light graininess, flash range, expensive MemoryStick media

I researched for months before buying this camera. Since I have an awesome Sony F-717 (large) camera and a Canon film SLR, I really just wanted something I could throw in my pocket and comfortably walk around for hours with at the zoo with the family or onsite at work. But, I didn't want to skimp on picture quality or some other features.

This Sony does take surprisingly good quality pictures, but you need to get used to it and train yourself around the camera's capabilities. It doesn't like it when you flinch at all when taking a shot, especially in mid-low light situations (but still very much an issue in a full bright sunny day). Things are easily smeared or blurred if you are not pretty still (if using default *point and click* settings. This is likely true and probably worse for almost all other tiny snapshot cameras out there. This is the oposite from my F-717.

Without tuning the adjustments for low-light sensitivity, you will notice some graininess, also.

With some adjustment either to your stillness or to the settings on the camera you can get around these issues, for the most part, and get some vivid, accurate, and quite impressive images. I have to say that the color accuracy is actually better than with my F-717. Believe it or not, although this is best suited as a 2nd camera for an enthusiast or experienced photographer with a better (bigger) main camera, this little guy is capable of some very impressive portraits, landscapes, and other "money shots". Take a lot of pictures with this, because when you get them back to the computer for viewing, some of the shots will simply knock your socks off. You'll think they came from a MUCH more professional, large (and expensive) camera.

For a camera this size to have its features, adjustability, image quality, optional components, and all of its other amazingness, is just truly a tribute to fast-moving technology and innovation. Hats off to Sony! All things considered, this is a wonderful value that I would recommend to any picky snap-shooter who wants a tiny camera.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 7.2MP a large 2.0" LCD quick start-up size is small. easy to carry

Weakness: The software accompanying the camera is pretty basic, so you'll want to expand your options with a good photo-editing package, like Adobe Photoshop Elements 3

Sony's new DSC-P200 has a powerful, 7-megapixel CCD--a resolution more often found on advanced cameras.
For taking snapshots, the DSC-P200 is a pleasure to use. It's exceptionally quick to start up, take shots, and shut down. It has a solid, durable feel to it.
So far, we have been very impressed. The size is very small, which can be hard to get used to, but I think it's a plus anyway. It starts up quickly and turns off just as fast.
The picture quality is very nice, good for indoor and out door!

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: compact size; beautiful pictures

Weakness: can't find any

Bought this for my wife, who insisted on simple operation and small size. Not only does it satisfy on both these points, it takes great pictures, too. The camera is small enough to fit in your pocket or purse and the point and shoot operation makes it really easy to use. Autofocus works great and the high resolution pictures are outstanding. I can't find anything to criticize about this camera. You'll want at least a 512 MB memory card, which will set you back another $50 or so

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 7.2meg resolution 2"clear screen USB2.0 connector longlife battery

Weakness: memory stick is so expensive compared to the others

I've bought it from Dell with super coupon. The processing is a little bit slow, but finally I've got my camera. The sony p200 is the camera for both professional and nonprofessional photographer. Packing enough manual control and easy to use scence selection. The resolution is also the biggest benefit from buying this hi res-low price camera. I loved it so far..

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Previously had a Sony P-150. P200 upgrades are great ... 2" LCD, center-weighted focus and metering addition, custom white balance. And "set-up" is within the menue--no mode dial turning.

Weakness: Flash distance limited, especially if you zoom in and room is not well lit. I guess that's to be expected from a compact cam.

I really like this camera, except for one fault that I believe is firmware-related and I'll discuss in a moment. It's easy to hold, and easy to use. Menu is logical--thanks Sony. And thanks for putting the "Setup" options within the menu so I don't have to turn the mode dial 180 degrees to make a change. I like the fact the red-eye on-off is within the "Setups." Unlike my wife's Canon S410, she can't force the flash with red-eye reduction on because the red-eye reduction is one of the flash button selections on the back. Center-weighted focus and metering addition is welcome, as is the custom white balance option--all of which my previous P150 didn't have. Two-inch LCD is sharp and clear, and I like the protective cover. Now, the fault I mentioned above. This happened with my previous P-150 (which I returned) and happened with my P200 today. Intermittently, immediately after taking a shot, what is supposed to be the two-second "review" simply flashes before your eyes for a split second and then the LCD goes to what I call the live or ready for the next shot view. Again, this happens every once in awhile. However, I don't know for sure, but I suspect, as may have been the case with my P150, that this happens when the battery is low. Like today, I showed 8 minutes battery time remaining. I'm charging the battery as I type this and will see if this happens with a full to moderately-full battery charge. If it doesn't, then it may be a firmware glitch manifested by a low battery. That shouldn't happen, and I would like to know if any other P150 and P200 users have encountered the same problem. Bear in mind, it only happens intermittently. Anyone out there know if Sony has a firmware upgrade available or coming? Thanks.

I noticed that with the 2 second review if I touch the capture button or whatever it's called while the photo is on the screen that the camera will assume that I am taking a new photo and stop showing the old photo to prepare for taking the new one. I don't really see this as a glich. especially since I can just tap left and review the last photo taken anyway.

Reply to darthmartan ... yes, that's true. But, I think it's when the battery is low (less than 25 minutes left on record mode) that this happens. I'm not talking about lightly pressing the shutter button. I know that cancels the review mode so you're ready for the next picture. You're right, that is not a glitch. What I'm referring to is the 2-second review appearing for a split second and then the camera ready for the next picture, without my doing anything.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 7.2 MP, high-resolution photos, 3072 x 2304 pixels, 2" LCD, Live Histogram, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, 3X Optical Zoom, Movies at 640 x 480 resolution @ 30 fps, PictBridge compatible

Weakness: No manual White Balance. Limited to Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Incandescent, and Flash. Small viewfinder.

DSC-P200 is an upgrade to the amazing DSC-P150. The LCD screen is now a superbly huge 2" for a very small camera. The LCD size increase comes from reducing the size of the Mode Dial and Zoom Button. "Settings" is now software controlled under the menu button.

Another upgrade from the P150 is the handshake alert which comes on when the shutter speed is too low for the lighting condition. Turn on the flash ;-)

To aid in holding the camera with both hands, like it should be, there is a groove on the top.

The camera price has gone down too from the P150 which is always a delight.

Oh! and one more important thing, SUPERFAST startup time. One second from pressing the powerbutton to taking the actual picture. Never miss that photo opportunity again. Turn off the startup sound under settings to avoid attracting attention to this otherwise devilishly stealthy device.

Poor Construction

Strengths: Compact camera with many great features. Great picture quality, good color saturation, excellent battery life

Weakness: You must be careful when shooting distance photos to hold camera very still. Somewhat difficult because of small size and light weight. Camera lens broke after only one year of use.

Bought this camera after extensive research. Replaces an older 3 MP Olympus, which I really liked. The Sony has great picture quality and color saturation. Very easy to use and compact size makes it a great point and shoot camera. Has many sophisticated options that contribute to overall quality of product. Camera lens broke after only one year of very average use. I have heard that others have had the same problem. For this reason, I would not purchase again.

love it, BUT!

Strengths: its great all around but,

Weakness: doesn't crop still images

the camera is great. I used to have an older Cybershot, 5.1 mp, but I had it stolen ( very sad), now I have this camera and I am very happy with it. It takes great quality pictures and videos. It is very comfortable and it has a large variety of useful functions. It has a very fast startup time which is extremely useful. I am really happy with my camera except that it does not crop still images ( like the past one) !!!

its good enough

Strengths: very quick, smart, tiny, hand size,

Weakness: litium battery very expensive, poor zoom, sometimes blur pıctures, it needs bright light when picturing fast moving objects. there is no serious resoluition diffrence betweenn 5mp and 7mp. only size

but it almost covers my expectations.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small size, very fast when opening up or shutting down, self-timer, auto focus, good color scheme.

Weakness: The zoom is pretty weak and have to hold very still in order not to get blurry pictures.

Chose the camera after extensive research and to match existing memory sticks from prior Sony cameras.
The camera can fit in a cell phone case and be clipped to the belt. Has options to choose the size of pictures up to 7MB - the number of pictures can very on the same memory stick. Overall, great quality.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Compact size, quick on time, ready for next shot in less than 1 second, zoom

Weakness: Self-timer function is too quick. No provision for a remote function cable.

I have ejoyed this camera since I bought it. Once you hit the power button, it is ready. Next shot is ready to take in less than 1 second.

I like the compact size and took advantage of Sony's discount to order a case, filter mount, and several filters.

I also like the video capture function (including sound). I have small hands so I have not encountered the "covering up the speaker" issue mentioned in previous ratings here.

This camera is quite adequate for my needs and has surpassed my expectations.

Hi,
can you elaborate regarding the sony's discount regarding the case, filter mount (the VAD-PHC?) and filters?
What was the price after discount?
Do you beleive these coupons are in ALL boxes of the DSC-P200?

TIA

Hi,
can you specify what is cost of the items after sony's discount?

What it means is when you buy something like this from Sony, you always get a coupon when you register it with Sony for other products that may go with it. Usually 20% for a onetime purchase. So if you are going to buy accessories, wait until you get your camera home and register on line. You will receive the coupon code in an e-mail.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Very clear pictures. Very fast response. Many features

Weakness: Too small memory stick, 32MB is for only 9 7.2MP/fine photos... Why is that dear Sony?

It is THE best digital camera i had up to date! The colors are very vivid, the lens is very clear. The manual function gives you the freedom to adjust everything before taking a picture. The camcorder mode also works perfectly, you have 45min with a 1GB memory stick (which in my opinion is the best memory stick to buy. I got the Sandisk 1GB memory stick Pro and it functions very well with the camera). It is very compact and light weight, the battery is perfect with huge capacity and shooting time and it won't let you down. I highly recommend DSC-P200. Compared to Canon SD-500 (again in 7.2MP), I found out that P200 has better colors, more natural tones, and its menu is easier and more friendly to use (at least in my opinion). It has quite a strong flash and the recharging time is small. It won't let you down even in the most weird and tough conditions. In general it is the best digital camera out there. And for $440 with a 1GB memory stick it sure gets the "BEST CHOICE" award by me!

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: 7.2MP, Carl Zeiss lens and Large 2.0" LCD

Weakness: Uses old style memory stick; these may not be available in the future..

All in all I have no complaints...7.2MP, Sony's reputation for innovationand build quality...it can't get much better than this...

The speed of operation and its ability to auto focus quickly is another feature I really appreciate!

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: good performance in low light, fast focusing speed, ultracompact design

Weakness: while memory sticks are still expensive, the included 32MB stick is not enough. Bundled software isn't any good.

While maintaining the good performance in low light, fast focusing speed of a Sony product, DSC-P200 matchs Canon cameras with respect to natural looking image quality. The p200 is ultra fast and you can take a handful of pictures in only a matter of seconds between shots in the highest quality. If you need a highly portable digital camera and you can afford memory sticks, DSC-P200 is certainly worth looking at.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small and compact, long battery life

Weakness: Power low light performance, No TIFF option

I purchased the DCSP200 as a second digital camers to supplement my DSCF707. The camera functions well under well lit environments, but has poor image quality under low light conditions. The flash output, while adjustable, barely reaches 12 feet with sufficient light. The flash does seem to have a low spread pattern resulting in overexposed areas in the center of the picture.

Comparing my DSCF707 pictures (a 5.2 mp) to my DSCP200 (a 7.2 mp) shows thath the 707 has better detail, better colors, and enlagements (8X10) appear better exposed.

Don't get me wrong. I use the DSCP200 quite often for day to day shots or for those time I don't want to lug around the heavier DSCF707. For outdoor shots with good light, the pictures are very acceptable. For portraits or those shots I want to keep and enlarge, the DSCF707 beats it hands down.

It's size is great to put in your jean's pockets and grab those quick shots without the bulk of a larger camera.

Would I make the same purchase after having used the camera for 8 months? Probably not. I would probably try to sell my DSCF707 and buy either the DSCF828 or bite the bullet and buy a digital SLR. Maybe I'll sell both and put a down payment on the new Canon D5 or the outstanding FujiPix S3 Pro. Well, not yet. I do like the DSCP200 for the everyday shooting and because it is small, but not too small that I'd lose it.

Sony DSC P 200

Strengths: Small form-factor Great picture quality Easy to use

Weakness: Insufficient zoom. Movie mode has only fixed zoom.

Advantages:
Overall it is a great camera for the price. Great for point ans hoot type of people. It is very light and small to carry.

The picture quality is great and 7.2 MP. I even printed a 8x10 pic with amazing clarity. Transferring photos from the camera to computer is very simple.

the movie mode is also very useful and so are the myriad of other options. It has some pretty good presets provided.

The menu options are also very intuitive. Battery life is also pretty good. One charge will last for about 200 mins of playback or 100 mins of shooting.

Drawbacks:
My main problem with the camera is that it only has 3X zoom. You cannot capture distant images but is enough for most things.
The other thing is that the night mode shots come out blurred if you don't have a tripod. I think this is the case with other cameras as well.
One more problem is that there is no way to zoom in the movie mode.

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: size, speed, very large lcd. set in auto, a great shooter for anyone. lots of megapixels for cropping and still get great 8x10 prints

Weakness: 1.doesn't share docking station with p-100/150, needs its own... so my others are now obsolete 2. no in-camera trimming, same as p-150, but the p-100 has this nice feature

i've upgraded from p-5, to p-10, to p-100, to p-150,
and now to the p-200. sony really has a winner here. compare to canon s-500, the only other real choice

Sony Cyber-shot DSCP200 7.2 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: Small, excellent picture quality, great battery time, large LCD

Weakness: Lag time and inability to crop pictures on camera.

I have only been using this camera for about 3 days and I love it! Its small and very portable. It takes very good pictures. I also like the fact that you can buy a lens adapter for a telephoto lens! I love it!

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 review

Strengths: - Compact size - Equipped with some manual controls - 2" LCD - Good lense

Weakness: - Could be less chunky - Wish for more optical zoom power (like 4x)

I bought this from a local retailer and have used it for about a month now. I like its manual control that allows you adjust both aperture and shutter settings as well as white balance (namely "one push"). In addition, the generous 2" LCD is pleasant to me after having used 1.5" LCDs for a long time. Finally, I recommend this camera due to following: price, 7.2 MP, and movie mode (640x480 until memory is full). Hope this help

DSC-P200

Strengths: Ease of use for novice like myself. Quick menu that allows you to change from movie, stills, review, etc., without much effort. Large bright LCD screen.

Weakness: You will probably need a larger memory stick. 32 mb does not hold very many pictures, especially in the 7 mp mode.

Have only had one other digital camera but this one by-far is superior. There are so many features that are available that I am sure it will take me a while to learn them all. I especially like the size of the camera. It is easy to handle and control. I am much more confident in my "picture-taking" ability now that I have a camera that is much smarter than I. I will certaily stick with Sony from now on.

Best compact, highest MP for lowest price

Strengths: Options, LCD menu and warnings before pictures are taken

Weakness: Discontinued by Sony and replaced by a lower MP model

I had a different brand camera that was a few years old. My father had purchased one for work and for himself. It was so good he bought one for my mother, she's a photo fanatic. Both are not that computer literate or good with high tech, but they seem to always take awesome photos. I decided to upgrade and buy one for my wife for her B-day. Unfortunately it was being discontinued to be replaced by a 6.0 MP camera that wasn't as small. But I did find them and they were on sale! MPEG videos come out awesome as well. We send them to all the relatives. We bought a 2 MB card and we could take a 1000 photos or 100 1 minute videos and still have room left even at the 7.2 MP setting. Why lower the quality, we save room for editing. We have a built in card reader on our Dell and can take photos, download, and email in 2 minutes. The camera is just fantastic and works perfect with our computer and for everything we can think of doing.

Good camera

Strengths: Best picture clarity, very compact

Weakness: Images gets blurred even with a slightest movement while taking pictures

Its a good camera but the only problem with it is the pictures gets too shaky even if i move my finger a little bit. I am very much annoyed with this thing and I'm certain if we use tripod this camera will be the best piece to own.

Very pleased

Strengths: Image quality, color, battery life, size, weight, temperature tolerance.

Weakness: Memory stick format. Flimsy, fumbly doors for media and battery. The knowledge that if anthing goes wrong, you have Sony to deal with.

This is the camera I bought to replace my disappointing DSC-P1. I have generally been very happy with it.

I was amazed how small the battery is compared with the P1, and was worried I would have even worse battery life problems. No such problems. I have been thrilled with battery performance, even in cold weather. I recently took it on a ski trip to Utah. Even in weather cold enough to freeze the eyedrops in my pocket (I think the high was in the single digits that day, with moderate wind), the camera never hesitated, never got to within half of a full battery charge. I kept it in the same pocket with my eyedrops. Last summer my wife and I took a 3-night backpacking trip through the Canadian Rockies, where the batteries also performed extremely well. I had 2 fully charged batteries, and got about halfway through the second battery by the end of our 4th day. That gave us about 1/2G worth of stills and video.

The color performance is also much improved over the P1 I retired. Occasionally I’ll get a shot with washed-out looking faces, but it’s fairly rare. The color balance still doesn’t seem as reliable as the Olympus point-and-shoot 35mm my wife uses, but the difference is pretty small in my opinion. I have most of my prints made on the Kodak site, and they turn out great.

The size and weight of the camera are fantastic. It is the perfect size in my opinion for a point-and-shoot. Any smaller, and I don’t see how you could operate it. I’ve got a little LowePro padded pouch for it that holds an extra battery and memory stick for travel, but the camera’s small and light enough to slip into a pocket for parties, weddings, etc.

I’m very happy with this product. I’m still pretty ill towards Sony for very poor customer support for a problem with my previous camera (I love their products, but don’t ever expect any help from them after the sale), but I have to give them credit for a product that suits my needs perfectly.

Sony DSC-P200 Digital Camera Review

The P-series of Sony digital cameras turns five this year. To celebrate, they’re putting out an upgrade to last year’s Cyber-shot P150. The new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P200 boasts 7.2 megapixels in a compact point-and-shoot form. The digital camera sticks with the classic P-series frame: a rectangle with a rounded left side. The P200 will be available in Europe and the United States in February...
