Great close up lens for the $$$$

Strengths: low cost, great photos

Weakness: none

I bought this close-up lens as an inexpensive alternative to buying a dedicated macro lens for close ups. I've been using it on my Canon 70-300mm IS lens to take pics of flowers and insects, and am extremely happy with the purchase. I highly recommend it for those of you who are wanting the most bang for the buck or who are new to macro photography.

Canon 500D Close-up Lens Filter

Strengths: Allows me to take macro images with my telephoto lens (70-300) without carrying a separate macro lens.

Weakness: If you own several lenses, you should buy the 72mm version (largest) and breakdown rings to make it fit the all.

When you have this filter on the camera, you have to get very close to the subject and be very precise with focusing due to narrow depth of field - once the focus is close, move the camera forward and back to get in focus)
