The Fuji F-10 is a break through digital camera. It is easy to use and it is capable of taking hand held, no flash digital photos with the lighting found in the average, well lit, living room. The built in flash unit is capable of taking good flash photos up to 25 to 29 feet away, whereas most other digital camera are only capable of taking good flash photos up to 7 to 16 feet away.

The Fuji F-10 will solve many of the problems of family photographers who feel that there is too much delay between the time you depress the shutter button and the digital camera takes the photo. The F-10 is capable of taking digital photos almost instantly. This can be a huge advantage when photographing young children or animals.

The Fuji F-10 digital camera produces 6+mp digital photos, has a 2.0 inch LCD, is conveniently small and pocketable, and sells on the internet at about $325 to $330, as of mid May 2005.

The FujiFilm F-10 is an excellent choice for those looking for a high quality ultra-compact digital camera, and do not require precise manual control over picture-taking parameters.

This camera takes quality pictures at 6 megapixels, and sensitivities up to 1600 ISO, meaning that you can take pictures without using flash at most ambient light situations. Of course, it also has a built-in flash for those situations that necessitate it. The F-10 does not have an optical viewfinder, but compensates for it with a large and clear 2.5" LCD display. This ultra-compact camera features a metal body, and its build quality is among the highest in its class. It is also one of the most responsive cameras in that price range, with start-up time of 1.3 seconds, and shutter lag of 0.01 seconds!

The main drawback of this camera is that it gives the photographer little creative manual control. You do have some basic controls, though: auto-exposure lock, exposure compensation, and flash forcing/suppression.

Currently sells for around $300.

Best in its class

Strengths: Excellent image quality, Very long battery life, Hi-Res Movies

Weakness: The Auto setting does not always produce the best possible shot, Uses xD picture cards

I bought this camera 3 weeks ago, and I've been very satisfied thus far. Before purchasing it, I had done a good amount of research for weeks on various websites (imaging-resource.com, dcresource.com, steves-digicams.com and dpreview.com, etc). I was looking for a compact camera with very good image quality, high-res movie capability and long battery life. This camera has it all.


The camera review sites have done a superb job on reviewing this camera in depth. I would highly recommend reading some of their reviews for more general information.


Image Quality - From my experience, it has produced the best images I have ever seen out of a digital camera. I'm confident that you will not find a better image on a digital camera costing less than $500. With a low ISO setting in good light, it cannot be beaten. Compared with Canon's SD500, even with less MPs the F10 clearly has it beat.


Low Noise in Dark Settings - This is yet another remarkable feature of the F10, and it does work. I've captured many low light photos and the images come out very nicely. When I'm in a dark setting, I find that I take two photos, one with the flash, and one without. The one with the flash looks very detailed and can printed to a large size, the no-flash photo looks very true to life (accurate colors and lighting) and can still be printed to a smaller size.


Long Battery Life - I have not yet tested this to the camera's limits. But I've used it all day outdoors once (200 photos + 12 movies) and it didn't even lose one bar (out of three).


Auto Setting - This camera's Auto setting may not produce the best image quality. What I mean is, you may need to adjust the Flash, ISO and exposure settings manually to eek out the good photos. To be honest, the Auto works alright, it doesn't produce terrible photos, but the camera may choose parameters that you'd rather not have. This issue mainly affects indoor shots. For instance, I took a photo in my living room, and the Auto chose Flash+ISO 400, and the photo was blurry and grainy. I retook the shot manually with Flash+ISO 80, and the image was razor sharp and extermemly clean. What does this mean? I guess if you're obsessed with getting out the best image, be prepared to experiment with the camera on your first few weeks. If you always intend to use it in Auto, then this camera will produce the excellent photos in daylight, but when it turns on its flash, you might get sub-optimal results. Some go so far as saying the Canon SD500 produces more consitent results in Auto mode. I found that learning how to use the Camera in Manual mode has been a rewarding experience. My recommendation is this: For outdoors, use Auto. For detailed low light, use Manual Flash + ISO 80. For natural low light, use the Natural Light mode, but keep the camera steady!


Everything else about the camera is average. The large LCD is nice, but it has a low resolution (so you can't review a shot and tell if it came out blurry). The xD picture card was a pain to have to purchase, because my other cameras took SD. The USB transfer rate is not as fast as other cameras, due to the slow xD card, but it's still acceptably fast. The cable box is a bit cluttered, but I didn't mind. The camera starts up fast, and is ready to shoot almost immediately. The zoom is a little slow. The macro shots have come out very well. Movies are high-res and the quality is good. Make sure to get a 1GB card for movies. Construction quality is high, it feels very sturdy and solid in the hand.


Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the camera and plan to use it for years to come.

I bought the Fuji F-10 camera two weeks ago due to loosing Canon A-95 camera. Before getting it I read a lot of reviews about new models each company. Now I am very satisfied with this. It is really easy to take clear as well as nice pictures anywhere such as indoor, outdoor and dark room. Moreover you can see the picture immediately through very huge LCD display. Although there is no optical viewfinder I do not think that most of guys need it to take pictures nowadays. I definately recommend you get it. ^^@

Camera for the everyman.

Strengths: Anti blur really works. Indoor photography extremely possible. Fast cycle time between shots. Great movie mode. Long battery life.

Weakness: Easy to accidentally switch on. LCD bright up keeps resetting after every shot. Very noisy autofocus. Menu navigation could be better. LCD screen doesn't swivel.

I will add my observations not mentioned in other more technical reviews. If you've read some of the initial comments of this product, one gripe was the misspellings in the menu. When I bought my camera in August 2005, the firmware was factory-updated to the latest version, so that problem is no longer there.

Most people who consider this camera do so because of its low light ability. I can attest to this. Compared to my entry-level digital cameras, this one makes previously impossible shots a reality.

As an example, I can take a blur-free, well-exposed shot of a room lit only by a 40-watt bulb, without using the flash, held only by my hands. When set to Auto, the camera chooses the higher ISO settings (800 or 1600) which produces grainier shots compared to its very low-noise ISO 400, but I'd prefer that over one which is dark, streaked and unusable. I don't mean that you won't need a tripod, or that you won't get blurred shots , but I believe that this is a testament to this camera's technology in harsh scenarios.

If you are one who often goes to museums, visits churches, attends parties, this camera is your best friend. Since you carry it all the time, you won't have trouble taking impromptu shots like road signs, street performers, even handing your camera to total strangers to picture your group. In the many places and events I've been, there were many golden opportunites that I could have missed entirely if it weren't for this camera. I think that more than makes up for its images not being at par with those large, costly, heavy, manually-controlled dSLRs.

A cute little camera

Strengths: small, battery last a long time, easy LCD operation (i.e. zoom in on pictures)

Weakness: only comes with 16 MB xD card, ackward to charge battery and upload photos to PC.

This is a fun little camera. It can take up to 6 Megapixel pictures. There is no viewfinder - only the LCD screen - not that that's bad - just FYI. The 16 MB xD card that comes with the camera is way too small - buy a larger xD card right away. It will only hold 5 pictures at the highest resolution and least compression, or 19 pictures at 3 Megapixels. One of the reasons we bought this camera is for the low shutter lag - the time from when you press the button to the time the picture is taken. Although in use, it is not instantaneous, it's pretty good and a lot better than our old digital camera. We were able to capture kids in mid air diving off the low diving board at the pool.

Another reason we bought this camera was for the low light capability. It supports ISO 800 and 1600 allowing for better pictures in low light. But, we haven't had the time to test it's low light capabilities.

In order to charge the battery, you must attach the camera to a "terminal" adapter and then plug the adapter into the AC outlet. In order to upload the pictures to a PC you must connect the "terminal" adapter to the camera and then plug the USB cable from the adapter to the PC. To view pictures on a TV, again you must connect the adapter to the camera and then the adapter to the TV. The camera has 1 connecter to the terminal adapter, and then the terminal adapter connects to the external PC/AC/TV. A bit inconvenient.

We like the camera so far and would recommend it to others.

Great Value

Strengths: Takes great photos, bright screen, easy to use, excellent videos, perfect size for taking quick photos, PictBridge allows direct-to-printer connection, very responsive

Weakness: USB-Power cable requires special connector, no view finder, XD photo cards are more expensive

I strongly recommend this camera for those who want a non-SLR camera that (a) takes excellent pictures without a lot of tweaking, (b) is easy-to-carry and easy-to-use, (c) can be operated quite easily with one hand, (d) takes video clips with sound that are quite good, (e) has a long-lasting battery, (f) connects directly to a printer (PictBridge), (g) takes good photos in dark places because of the range of ISO settings, and (h) is very reasonably priced (using PriceGrabber to find good deals).

I love this camera. The prints it makes, whether printed on my Canon Pixma i90 inkjet printer or uploaded to a commercial photo processor, are outstanding. I rarely have to us photo-optimizing software to change anything (other than cropping).

The camera's menus are a bit confusing at first, and some of the features I use are buried a bit, but it only takes a short time to get used to the settings you want. Amazingly, the automatic settings are what I use the most.

I have friends with more expensive SLR cameras that are impressed with the photos, and they even envy the convenience of a smaller, pocket-size camera that I can carry more conveniently and operate more easily than theirs. While the Fuji Finepix F10 does not have all of the setting options some of my friends insist they need, it produces excellent photos, and I paid about 1/3 of what they did.

Remarkable ability

Strengths: I love the low light ability of this camera and the battery life. It is solidly built and all the switches have a positive, quality feel.

Weakness: See comments.

Like all digicams this one needs a little work:
1. The battery takes 4 hours to charge and it takes two small boxes with cables plus an AC cable just to make it happen. On the good side, once charged it seems to last forever.
2. The menu is a pain to navigate through because they provide no way to jump from page to page (dear Fuji, try a Panasonic). On the good side they do take you right back to the entry you last modified so you can easily set the camera back to where it was when you're finished using that option.
3. Reviewing a picture to see if it is in focus is a pain because it takes too long to zoom in and when you get there it's only magnified about 4 times (dear Fuji, try a Panasonic... four clicks gets times 2, 4, 8 and 16).
4. Fuji must think if I use the 3:2 ratio mode that I'm going to print 4X6s so there's no need for me to use "Fine" quality jpeg. Well suppose I want to anyway. Why NOT allow it?
5. When the camera is set to Auto ISO, all flash pictures seem to end up at ISO 800. I know that it improves the flash range but it also tends to make the pictures very noisy. ISO 400 would have been a better choice. Of course you can choose your own ISO (see 6.).
6. Exposure adjustment doesn't work when the flash is used. This really only hurts when you choose you own ISO as it tends to under expose.
7. If you bump the battery door and it opens, the battery just falls out. There's no other restraint. It's not much of a problem now but as it gets older... who knows.

I normally do print 4X6s so #4, #5 and #6 aren't that much of a problem for me. The only one that REALLY annoys me is #3.

Very Nice P&S Camera

Strengths: LCD 2"5 , great low-light performance , strong flash ,nice balanced auto mode (daylight pictures) , not too heavy , long last battery , movi mode ,price,AF lamp .

Weakness: Lack of manual controls , too much cabels.

What else could i say ? Dont look anymore because this camera is a real jewel in p&s category . Some manual options are missing but it is not a big deal . Personally i bought it mostly because of awesome low-light performance but also day-light and macro pictures are very nice . If you buy it you will love it for instant, thats for sure =:-)

amazing resolution

Strengths: resolution, large LCD, good battery life, excellent movie mode; menu system, value for its price

I own this camera for 3 weeks now,
and overall I am pleased with it,
considering it was a lot cheaper than

Great camera, but choice of digital film has its...

Strengths: Fast start up, great for motion and low light pictures, long battery life, easy to use

Weakness: Choice of digital film is poor, use of card reader to delete pictures requires reformat of card for use in camera

I originally bought this camera for the high ISO settings and for taking pictures in low light of parrots that don't sit still. The picture quality was very good and the colors were great, but I normally use a card reader to transfer the pictures to my computer, and then delete the pictures from the card with the reader. Each time the card had to be reformatted in the camera for re-use. After reading the manual more carefully, I found that deletion of the pictures must be done from the camera, and deletion of each picture, one at a time, must be done to avoid having to reformat. If you have a large XD card and take a number of pictures, this can be a real pain. Because of this, I am considering selling this camera and buying one that uses a more commonly use picture card.

Fuji F10, the silver bullet

Strengths: - good value - large lcd - fast!! - not too big - bright image quality

Weakness: - no manual mode features - inefficient charging & photo transfer system (see below)

- must charge battery while connected to camera, rather than having charger as separate unit. another inconvenience is that to download photos you must connect to ac/dc rather than just have 1 cable connecting from camera to computer. Canon SD-20 has much more efficient system.

Low light specialist

Strengths: Fast. High ISO. Very long battery life. Solid construction. Simple menus.

Weakness: Bad auto mode. Bad flash mode. Low playback zoom.

You cannot rely on the auto mode to take good pictures. It overexposes almost everything, and the focus is not sharp. Once you work out how to set it up for different scenese, you can get some good results.

Not recommended for the basic user.

mixed results

Strengths: good low light shooting, compact, good battery life, nice design

Weakness: weak & slow flash response, colors not great for outdoors, xD card

Overall a nice camera but you can do better with Nikon7900 for same range. Major plus is flash free photography when you can't use flash. Also body is very compact and large hands may have trouble managing it. I found Panasonic LZ2 a better value overall with good grip, image stabilization, large zoom and $130 less.

Nice pocket size point-and-shoot

Strengths: Long battery life, picture quality in low light, large 2.5" LCD

Weakness: Sometimes inconvenient to charge battery with camera in charger.

We wanted a small, pocket size camera that we could carry with us at all times instead of relying on a cell phone or bulky full-size camera. And it had to take great indoor shots. The Finepix F10 is it! The compact size and very, very long battery life have been a perfect combination for our active family. We did upgrade to a 1GB xD Fujifilm picture card (more expensive then a SD card).

Picture quality has been very impressive. The ISO range in low light has made a huge improvement in the caliber of our indoor shots. Shutter lag / shooting speed seem fast but are still noticable.

The large 2.5" LCD seems huge compare to some of the other cameras we looked at. We've really come to appreciate that advantage.

I bought this camera after a lot of research. My background includes 40 years of photography and I was looking for a camera that would be both versatile and small while still producing good pictures.

This camera fits the bill entirely, except for the fact that I ignored the warnings about it not having a viewfinder.... a serious shortcoming...

Indoors, the ability to take quality pictures without a flash makes the unit unbeatable... but if you are outdoors and use the old adage that the sun should be at your back, you simply cannot see the screen to frame your subject... the sun completely washes out the image and I have found no way to overcome it yet....

Being a tinkerer, I am considering adding my own viewfinder to the top or side of the camera to enhance its outdoor use.

It is the only dissapointment and I will continue to use and enjoy the camera indoors...

Great Camera, Great Pictures

Strengths: Nice low light performance. Battery lasts forever.

Weakness: A bit bulky for the pocket, uses dongle connection, poor video mode, and stuck with XD memory.

Takes great pictures. I love the Natural Light mode. It allows me to take pictures without flash, so I don't have to worry about light reflecting back and drowning out all the details. Low light? No problem. Night time pictures come out pretty decent without using a tripod.

It's a little bigger than most ultracompact. I hate connecting to the PC and charging the battery through a dongle. I'm disappointed by the grainy AVI video. I also don't like to be stuck using the prorietary XD memory when there is 150X SD memory available.

Great Camera

Strengths: Quick between shots. Quick shutter time. Great quality pictures

Weakness: Auto - tends to jump to Iso 800 or 1600 to often

Great camera. It can take a little bit more playing around with to get the pictures to come out appropriately. Pictures are flawless at Iso 400 or below. At 800 and 1600, you can see noise, but they would still be great pictures if you printed them out.

I have had no problems with the camera, and it has helped me catch a lot of pictures of my son growing up.

I found one weakness

Strengths: Many, excellent pictures under ordinary light conditions.

Weakness: Performs poorly in low light with flash situations. The small flash just doesn't have the power. I have an older Canon Power Shot S30 that performs much better.

I was a little let down by the underexposures in low light w/flash. Without flash it performed better on several shots. I've gone to using a supplemental slave flash with it.

The Fuji F10 is terrific

Strengths: Awesome picture quality, great for indoor and lowlight shots, great and good looking design, the battery has endless power.

Weakness: None really.

I did A LOT of research and i narrowed my choice down to the fuji f10 and canon a610 (5.0mp). While the F10 really won in design (sleek, small, compact,) over the canon (bulky, AA batteries, unnesseray and flimsy flip out screen) the real factor for me was image quality and they are both about eaqual. The canon's colors may be brighters but the fuji has better resolution (clarity) and indoor abilities (high iso). Innitially i was planning on shying away from the high iso settings but when i realized that the iso 400-800 shots simply looked better than the others i realized how indispensible they were to taking more natural indoor shots with or without the flash. Another thing that amazes me is the recharable lithium battery which doens't seem ot run out (seriously). One of the reasons i bought this camera was to goto Europe with it and it turns out with a $2.50 plug adapter on amazon.com i could jsut recharge the battery there since the camera charger is already dual voltage ready. This is overal a great camera that will grow on you.

Buying Advice: The best deal out there is Buydig.com The price is $277 and unike what pricegrabber says there is no tax. The free ground shipping (7-10 days) turned out to only take 24 hours for me (the warehouse is in New Jersey)

In case you haven't figured it out already, I like the Fuji FinePix F10. A lot. While it may look like just another compact point-and-shoot camera, it's much more than that. It's most notable features include its great photo quality, high ISO shooting ability, large LCD display, and stellar battery life. It's got a few downsides but the positives outweigh them in a major way.
