Samsung Digimax V4 4 Megapixel Compact Camera

Strengths: easy to operate, small size(using SD memory card), good quality of picture, various functions, good customer service, works with several different types of batteries(including AA).

Weakness: weakness of the included software.

i think this is one of the best digital cameras i've ever seen. it provides voice-recording, preview of the movie clip with sound. the quality of pictures is very satisfactory. one of the most superior functions compared with other brand cameras is the convenience of its operation with several one-touch buttons. the size of the camera is small so it is very easy to carry. i definately recommend this camera to someone who is considering to buy a new digital camera between several different brands and models.

Strengths: Intuitive menu and operational controls more easily mastered than much of the competion, Picture Quality is top rate. An entire well written manual in english.

Weakness: Not easily available currently had to look for quite some time. Minumus size LCD will be a little annoying to some. Buy extra memory!

This camera feels very good in your hands even without an over fashioned grip. The LCD is small but readable. Uses AA batteries which is a plus. I'm not sure where the optics come from but was producing pics as good as my 4.0 mpx Nikon so I'm impressed. Moving pics with sound is a nice option. Well priced for this high quality of a camera.
Have taken over 400 pics in first two days so it has had a workout to this point and all is well.

Strengths: Superb optics, full manual control on everything, small size

Weakness: Is dead in minutes of reasonable picture-taking functioning from alkalines and NiMH rechargeables(which last for 8-10 hours in my mp3-player).Only Li-Ion CR-V3 or brandname Li-Ion(+about $95) work.

Perfect second camera for an amateur or a professional. Perfect optics. Good electronics and full picture-taking control combined with small size which is kinda unique.
But include brandname powersource in price (a MUST, on my opinion, for normal comfort functioning! I've got no more than 10-20 fully resoluted pictures before camera automaticly shut down due to power insufficiency) and you will get the REAL price of that. Since it was originally equipped with LI-ION CR-V3 battery which lasted first 2 weeks (I've taken about 70 pictures in that time) without problems, I wasn't able to trade it in back and decided to buy brand power-source for $95. If I would add $95 to the price I would get what I want from Olympus-C740UZ. Except of full-memory size movies and some other stuff,.. But... I feel upset about this power trick which make all other features of no sence to me for that money. I would buy Olympus-C7XXUZ right now or Kodak-DX6490. I feel like I'm a looser with this camera. Think about it.

Strengths: price

Weakness: does not function with AA alkalines

i bought the V4 today in nyc at J&R after doing a lot of research. the main reasons for purchasing were:
a, price and specs. no camera came close for offering the features this one did. at the price of 329 plus a 70 buck rebate, it was a no-brainer. still, what got me the most was the ability to use store-bought alkalines. and i might be mistaken for doing so, thinking they provide better functionality, but the "titanium" and "ultra" marks of the top names are the ones i always buy. they power my 30 gb nomad jukebox when the rechargeables die (not well, but they do) and they power my new sony mp3 walkman very well! the V4 uses the AA alkalines as a big selling point it seems, but guess what, folks? they don't work for more than two minutes. two whole freaking minutes. i called the samsungcamerausa.com tech support and they told me they don't really work as the camera drains the batteries quickly and the alkalines don't have the power to maintain the V4. the V4, though, doesn't actually drain the battery as the power indicators on the battery still indicate full power when removed from the camera. tech support said they work best with rechargeables (not provided), but we all know that when we're out all day with spare rechargeables, they lose power once they're removed from the charger, so to carry extras is absurd.
i am returning the V4 tomorrow. price ain't everything. false advertising is.

Strengths: World's reknown Schneider Lens. Ultra Sharp images. Full manual function supported. User friendly. Bunch of functions but still compact. Supports 8 types of battery

Weakness: The only weakness i found was the slow view of picture thru the lcd screen.

Overall, this is an extremely competitive camera especially for those who want to prepare themselves as a amature photographer. Since it provides full manual function, you can practice many functions that will be applied to DSLR cameras. I was using this camera since last year, and recently i moved over to Canon 300D, which is a DSLR camera. You can take supurb picture, but it really depends on the skillz you learn from it. If you think you are skilled, then go for it, and use 100% of the manual function it gives. Don't think this as a cheap camera. If you know how to use them, then it's all yours. I would recommend to purchase the samsung recharbeble Li-ion battery together. Normal li-ion battery exhaust too fast. I also found it useful to buy a remote control, but it is your preference.

Strengths: One of the smaller cameras sold (easily fit in jeans pocket). great price. 4mp is good. easy to use. great pics. sd card and AA batteries - easy to get those anywhere.

Weakness: software isnt that good, but neither are the others - you are better off buying something like Adobe Photoshop.

overall this is a great camera and i even bought one for my relative b/c they liked it so much. very simple, straight forward camera. i had the kodak 6340 and looked at canon, sony, olympus, minolta and nikon. they were all very overpriced. olympus was just not good. C, S, M, and N required special batteries, which meant you needed a spare. kodak had a big LCD display which was nice. so overall, this camera had it all.

Strengths: Has a very good book of instructions and the controls are very easy to use.

Weakness: There should be a better placement of the link to the PC. instead of a pull open door, it should have a slider, it would make it easier to attach the USB cable to the camera.

I would, and have recommended, this camera to people who have asked my opinion about digital cameras. It is very easy to use once you get used to it. The instructions are well written and the use of illustrations and photos are very helpful.

Small, cute camera. great pics. very good price what you are buying. recommend to anyone. AA batteries which is easy to find and cheap. comes w/ a leather case and mine even had a free 3 yr warranty w/ it. you cant go wrong.
