Strengths: Small size, light weight, user-friendly, videos for full length of memory card, built-in speaker.

Weakness: Memory card (secure digital) is more expensive than most others, camera mode selector not easy to move, takes longer than expected to actually take pictures (but quick start up).

My first digital camera was the Canon Powershot S300 (which I paid about $500 for). I paid $400 for this one (from Good Guys b/c I had a certificate). I've seen this on eBay for about $310 out the door =) ).

Anyway, this camera is GREAT! Compared to my previous camera which I bought about 2 years ago, they have DEFINITELY come a LONG way in digital camera technology. First off, the 3.2 megapixel quality is more than sufficient for everyday photos. This camera is also great for close-ups (up to 15cm).

The user menus are super easy to use as well. Love the sound that comes along with it! The camera makes sounds when turned on/off, picture taken, and when a picture is focused. You can even CUSTOM record your own sounds to some of these features! You can also preview the pictures without actually having to switch to preview mode too. That saves a lot of time!

The start up time is also amazing. My old camera took forever to take picture after picture. This one is quick.

The downfalls are that the memory card is pretty expensive compared to other makes and taking pictures takes a little longer than I had expected. The camera takes a while to focus the image(s). The camera also sometimes hangs when using the USB connection (I have to pull out and put in the battery).

The biggest problem I have is moving the camera mode selector (from image shooting, preview, movie/audio mode, and setup).

Overall, however, I would HIGHLY recommend this camera!!!

Strengths: Compact size, up and running fast, continuous shot mode, versatility

Weakness: Flash coverage, but what can you reasonably expect from something this small

Is it really a point and shoot camera? Yes, in the AE mode. Will some shots be underexposed, perhaps. Are there adjustments available on the camera to overcome an underexposure, yes! So, what we have is a point and shoot camera that is really a bit more.

The package is advertised at PC/Mac compatible, the latter requiring as a minimum OS 9.0. Bad news -what is not said, but can be found in the Dimage Viewer manual, is that you need 128K of RAM. Two days later, after the crash and reconstructing my 64K RAM Mac G3, my wife counseled me to read the manual. Good news - you don't need Dimage Viewer to move the images to your computer desktop.

Picture quality is more than adequate for my needs, family photography, adventure pictures and things that simply cry out to be recorded. I am simply amazed at the plethora of options available on the various menus all of which are easily manipulated and understandable.

I've already ordered the AC Adapter, the case, an extra battery and a 256MB SD Card. So, what was a $250 camera has become a $420 dollar device. Love the rechargeable battery and the little stand. It sits right next to my old Mac as I search the internet for things to do that might warrant 224 pictures.

Strengths: Small, simple, battery life, movie mode, robust

Weakness: No case included in package, seems heavier than my previous camera but this one is metal my old one was plastic, delay after pressing button to take photo

I bought this camera from dabs.com in the UK for £163, I had a choice of either the Xt or the Xg and I went for the Xt because it cost more. I then found out the Xg was newer and got a little worried, although it all turned out good in the end.

The Xt and Xg really just seem to offer different features and the Xt is more geared towards what I wanted to do. With the Xt you get a smaller screen but it has the advantage of being higher quality than the one on the Xg. The Xg does away with TIFF support, the AV access, desktop charger etc and replaces them with limited image editing built in, that I would certainly never use.

The only advantage the Xg would give is 30fps movies rather than 15fps movies, but hey this is a *stills* camera, the video thing is just a very nice and very useable gimmick.

I've taken my camera out on the piss twice so far and its performed good, the only problems I have with it are:

1) Sometimes the camera takes the photo 1-2 secs after pressing the shutter button in low light, which means your drunken subjects have moved by this time. But I think this is just me noticing the delay more as my old digital camera was really simple.

2) My paranoia about smashing the LCD or breaking the lens cover shutter, or dropping it and breaking the zoom mechanics. It's quite a complex camera (although I think they all are nowadays) unlike my old camera which was so simple if I dropped it it was very unlikely to break. Just that feeling of "this camera really is going to break as soon as the warranty wares out isn't it?"

I've yet to try recording a long video (on a bigger card), although I have found that on the included 16mb card that movie mode cuts off (i.e. reaches the max file size) at around 10 - 12 MB depending on resolution and at exactly 40 seconds of video in 320x240 and exactly 2.30 secs of video in 160x120. I don’t know why this is, but I trust that with a bigger card the max file sizes will increase, as the manual states it will and other reviewers say so too.

From what I can see, although I've never touched an Xg:

Xt = Better overall pro features except for the movie mode only being 15fps.

Xg = Not quite as good features, features replaced with editing ones that you'd never use if you owned a copy of photoshop/premiere. But better movie mode at 30fps.

Strengths: All steel body, full feature, more then expected. This is one of the coolest things I have purchased. Pictures are great. The movie feature is fun and allows you to be creative with your friend.....

Weakness: The price changes daily, Not a problem with camera, just when do you get the best deal.

My first digital camera. Good bye film, this plays back on the bigscreen TV. Watch your movie or view your pictures in a slide show. I like the charger/ camera base. This thing is as good as it looks. Will be taking this everywhere.

Strengths: Small size, tough case, great pictures, good movies. I carry in pocket most of the time just in case a good shot materializes.

Weakness: LCD screen is smaller than most, needs cover or will scratch in pocket. shutter sometimes slow to react. Saves movies as mov file which is not compatable with any application except Apple QuickTime.

Shopped around quite a bit and was intrigued by the lack of protruding lens and small size, weight. 3.2 MP was all I need as 8 X 10" prints are max for my photo printer. It is just a very tiny bit larger than a Canon SD300 or SD400 but they cost more.
My wife made me a nice little felt sack so keys and change in my pocket wont scratch the LCD. It has a good strong battery/card door, not like Canon flimsy door. Power and USB cable are tiny and my setup at work computer won't work. Movies are Apple QuickTime, which player comes with camera but is not compatable with any of my Windows editing applications which is a downer, biggest gripe.

Strengths: Compact

Weakness: Shutter gets stuck on the lens on the first day

I bought this camera for my sister. When she got it, after a couple of shots the shutter for the lens got stuck. I had to shake it a couple of times to the the shutter to close. When the shutter gets stuck the camera will not work and it makes a a grinding sound. Maybe I just got her a defective one but I will return it and see if she gets the same problem.

Strengths: The size is great. Fits easily anywhere, like in a pocket or purse. Pictures are very good.

Weakness: The LCD screen could be larger.

This is a good camera for the money. While the battery life could be longer, it is easily recharged, and you don't have to mess with the AA rechargables! You can't go wrong with this camera.

Weakness: camera body not as durable as all metal casing of dimage xi

I owned the dimage Xi before I bought this camera. I was very satisfied with that camera but when I found out that the Xt was the new improved version I just had to get my hands on it. I have had the camera for one week now and I would recommend it to everyone who needs a digital camera, unless you are a professional photographer or somebody who needs extensive manual controls and perfect picture quality at very large size printouts. With my 256MB memory card i can take upto 43 minutes of video all in one clip in the low resolution setting and more than 11 minutes in the high resolution setting, although i wouldn't recommend the low resolution setting at all. For $233 including shipping this is the best electronic gadget purchase i have ever made!

Strengths: Super Stylish! Very small and slim. Amazing fast start up. Produce sharp picture with natural color.

Weakness: Zoom speed is not fast. The function wheel is a little bit too small to rotate it easily.

I ordered this camera as a gift for my brother. When got it, I knew I made a wonderful choice. The design is superb: silver metal body with textural stainless steel handle, everything is delicate. 3X optical zoom lens hide in very slim body and can produce very nice pictures. Start speed is really amazing, much faster (3 or 4 times) than my Nikon Coolpix775. Lithium battery is also my favorite. It can be recharged at any time and without the memory effect. All the buttons are very easy to use, except the function wheel.

When I first saw this camera, only one word came to my mind: COOL! I hope I also have one in the future.

Strengths: Shirt pocket size. Awesome pictures from such a small camera. Fast.

Weakness: Awkward recharging stand. Battery life. Easy for your hand to get in the way of the lens.

This camera is sweet! It's a 3.2 megapixel, but it's taken pictures that are sharper and crisper than pictures from other people's 5 megapixel. Unless you are doing some serious blow-ups (bigger than 8x10), this camera is more than enough. Normally, I get 4 inch prints made at my local developer, and they come out vivid and sharp, exceeding your average 35mm film camera.

Other features: it starts up quick and will take continuous pictures about one every 1-2 seconds. White balance for daylight, cloudy, tungsten, and fluorescent lighting. It'll do black and white and Sepia. It will do a double exposure-one without the flash (to get the background), and with the flash (to get the foreground). You need a stand to take advantage of this. I got a great picture in Hawaii of the sunset and my wife an I that people can't believe I took with this camera.

It also does movies with sound (320x240), you can save audio comments with the pictures, heck, you can use it as a voice recorder.

There are a couple drawbacks because of its size. Short battery life is the biggest. Figure 3-4 days of average picture taking on vacation. I got a second generic battery from a website for less than $20. Or you can bring the charger with you, but it's a pain if you're going to Europe. Also, due to the location of the lens, it's easy to get your fingers in the way of the shot. It takes a bit of "retraining" yourself to hold it properly. The recharging stand is an awkward design. They should have just made a cable that plugs into the camera.

Overall, it's a great little camera. Doesn't have all the professional features, but a good replacement for your average 35mm.

Strengths: Compact size, very high quality pictures, quick working controls, high capability, sleek and cool

Weakness: short battery life with rechargable lithium ion battery.

This camera is a combination of everything you generally would want or need. There is a very compact size, easy operation, lcd monitor, 3x zoom, and enough megapixels for very high quality regular pictures. THis new model also includes improved feature like the easy quick view and deletion of pictures. I was astonished with the quality o these images. The pictures are vibrant and clear and are easil manipulated by photoshop. I will be able to take this camera everywhere I go and capture every moment.

Strengths: Size, rechargeable battery and quality of camera looks.

Weakness: when reading the SD card, the LCD remains ON and cannot be turned off-draining the battery.

This is my first digital camera and I am very excited for it has a ton of features that a film camera cannot offer. With a rechargable battery and a travel charger, one can use it anywhere in the world. the AV cable allows to see pictures in a NTSC or a PAL TV

Strengths: It's small, compact and cheaper to other compact cameras. Photo quality is good.

Weakness: Weak flash

Great camera! I bought this camera after comparing it to the Canon S230 and SD100. Basically came down to the fact that it has 3x optical zoom vs 2x on the digital elph, it is thinner than digital elph so it doesn't feel bulky in your pocket and it is also cheaper. Plus it can record quicktime videos till your SD card is filled. Not to mention the picture quality is good for a camera it's size.

Strengths: Extremly compact. No protruding zoom lens. Perfect for my wife who is an interior designer. Great pictures. Easy to use.

Weakness: None so far.

After lots of research, this camera is the one for us. It has everything we need in a camera. The size is perfect, and yet is completes beautifully with the bigger more bulky cameras. We're thrilled with our purchase.

Strengths: Very compact, light weight, easy to use.

Weakness: Not really a weakness--but so small it would be easy to misplace. I guess that's the reason a wrist strap is provided.

My first digital camera. I'm asking myself why I waited so long. Even the rather small selector knob is not too difficult to move from one setting to another using a fingernail. My son has a fantastic Fugi digital camera and he tells me that my Minolta DiMage xt far surpasses his in performance/features. His is only 11 months old.

The most impressive thing is how the zoom lense stays contained within the case of the camera itself. COOL!

The case that came as part of the "Executive" package is considerably larger than it needs or should be--but the case itself is fine.

Strengths: extremely compact, great design, superb technology

Weakness: because the footprint of the camera is small, you need small or at least a sensitive hand to handle. taking pictures with the flash has a slight delay, for good snapshots at night you need some luck

I ordered this camera for my father some months ago and he has been using it a lot. When I was shopping around for myself, I ended up with the same one. Not only is it extremely compact, it has a great 3x optical zoom that does not protrude. I consider it a camera on the go, I always have it in my shirt or jacket pocket. The video feature is neat. The menu is very intuitive, I have hardly looked at the user manual

The size is so small. You can even put it in your pocket. And the funtions are as good as the big size digital camera. It is more suitable for girls. The price is acceptable.
