I bought an extra Nikon-branded EN-EL5 for my Coolpix 3700 camera, and am quite satisified with it. It's relatively cheap for a proprietary battery, it seems to last pretty well, and it charges in under 2 hours. The battery comes with a snug-fitting plastic cap to protect the terminals and it fits nicely into my close-fitting Nikon 3700 carrying case.

Weakness: Could be less expensive

Small size works well with new compact cameras like the Nikon Coolpix 3700. If you like the convienience of a small compact camera you need a good small compact power source. What can you say - it is Nikon!

For a Nikon camera, stick with a...

Strengths: Genuine Nikon, so no camera-warranty conflict. No risk of some slightly cheaper, off-brand battery damaging expensive camera. Tiny, compact cell is size of a matchbox.

Weakness: Proprietary, versus NiMH or Li-Ion AAs or AAAs. Two hours to charge. Coolpix 5200 discharges battery quickly.

For a Nikon camera, stick with a Nikon battery, rather than risk potential power issues with your camera's electronics. I recommend buying AT LEAST TWO of these batteries (beyond the one included with your camera), given the high drain of cameras like the Coolpix 5200. Strengths: Small size, holds charge well, long life.

Weakness: None that I know of.

The battery lasts a long time, providing longer camera usage time before a recharge is required. I got one EN-EL5 with my Nikon camera and purchased a second one recently to use as a backup battery. The Nikon MH-61 charger is convenient and relatively fast for charging these EN-EL5 batteries. Highly recommended, although with my Nikon Coolpix 4200 these batteries are my only option.

If you're in a pinch and can't charge then you can use a Duracell CP-1 as a replacement (although I'm not sure of the availability of the CP-1). I use this as a backup to the original battery than came with my Nikon 3700, and it is identical. There are no worries about any incompatibilities. I'd recommend at least one backup EN-EL5 for any user.
