Excellent flash

Strengths: powerful, mostly accurate, focus assist lamp

Weakness: a little too big

I have used this flash with my new k20d camera. I have not used it much. But, I find it quite accurate in exposure under various indoor conditions. I have not tested it outdoors. One useful function I have found with this flash in low light, low contrast situations is the focus assist lamp. I wish the camera has it in the body. With this lamp I get quick focus lock. The wireless mode also works...

THE flash for getting the most out of lighting situations with Pentax DSLR

Strengths: Powerful flash. Vertical and horizontal swivel positioning

Weakness: None that can't be adjusted

I bought this because of more power and ability to twist horizontally, as well as vertically, compared to 360 model. I have started trying some things out in high speed and other modes. It is definitely a step up from just the pop-up flash on K10D. There is a bit of underexposure by default. But you can set flash compensation. I also took others' advice and got a Sto-Fen omni bounce flash...

Pentax AF-540 FGZ P-TTL

Strengths: The major strength is that it works with my new cameras in all modes where my old Phoenix did not. Another strength is it's ability to be used as a slave flash.

Weakness: Thusfar, I have found no real weaknesses in this flash unit.

I purchased this flash because my old Phoenix worked only in manual mode on my K10D. I needed a programmable flash that was reliable and as my camera is Pentax, the choice seemed obvious. I don't use a flash all the time but, in testing it out, I have found it to be fairly easy to use with the exception of the modeling light (many don't use it but, in low light it's needed). I have not figureed...

Pentax AF-540 FGZ Autofocus TTL

Strengths: Dedicated Flash, P-TTL, Tilt and swivel bounce adjustment, Can be used off camera as remote flash, comes with stand, built in wide angle and catch light panels, fully integrates with my dSLR (K10D)

Weakness: None but see comments

I purchased this unit as a dedicated flash for my Pentax K10D dSLR. The flash is an awesome unit that fully integrates with the K10D camera. It can even be used as a remote flash by using the camera's built in flash as the master. Tilt and swivel head insures control over bounce flash to eliminate harsh flash lighting. The control panel is easy to read and quick to set up. I have read that...

Pentax AF-540 FGZ new user

Strengths: Powerfull, easy to use, awesome wireless capability, good construction

Weakness: Pricy

Having recently bought the Pentax K10D I found myself looking for a good flash unit that would meet my high expectations of build quality, ease of use, and functionality. After going to a local photo store to check out the Sigma 500 Super DG flash, I decided to go with the Pentax 540. The new Sigma 530 is supposed to be very comparable to the Pentax, but since the Pentax isn't much more $, why...
