Nikon Capture Nx

Strengths: Easy to use controls once you get used to what they can do - I think it is easier to use than Photoshop. Picture quality is great with my Nikon D80.

Weakness: None found yet.

There are several web sites available with tips and tricks to help use this software to the best of its ability. I have found it to be fast enough on my computer which is just a year old. I am excited about the improvements to my current pictures and look forward to using it as my first choice in future photo editing. I would recommend to any Nikon owner!

Nikonians must have.

Strengths: Excellent performance with its function especially for RAWs.

Weakness: No perspective adjustment. No invert selection. No insertion of new edit step.

First of all, it's a RAW conversion for Nikon DSLRs and it's the best such converter so far. Try it before you buy so that you will know what this software is about. It's not Photoshop, not Corel's PSP, not the graphic software you are expecting. Neither is it DxO. It's a unique software to do RAW conversion and some other easy global and local adjustment. The software is not perfect yet, but it is the only one in its kind. Any one who needs photoshop will still need photoshop. Those who are familiar and love Capture 4.x will have to do a little adjustment to this software.

Great match for Nikon Cameras

Strengths: Full compatibility with Nikon cameras (read every info from the cameras); U-point technology

Weakness: Compatibility with Nikon View; Browsing view

This is recommended if you own a Nikon camera. It is fully compatible with .NEF of the Nikon. All the editing information is stored in the same file (not like photoshop CS where information is stored in a separate file). The U-point technology is very useful. With your choice of color, it allows you to adjust the color, contrast, brightness, etc.

Bad parts of the program are the file browsing view and the picture rating. The browsing view does not let you see big image even at the highest zoom-in, not like Adobe Bridge. The picture rating is not compatible with Nikon View. Anything you rated with the Nikon View will not show on Capture NX.

Weakness: apparent incompatibility with some apple programs

bought about 4 months ago. when I installed it my in imac, system crashed. took 6 hours wiith mac techs to restore. Then my iphoto index was erased. In trying to reconstruck the index, (9500 pics). from iview media pro, that whole program was erased. This thing has been a total nightmare. Nikon tecs were no help. I recommend strongly full and complete back-up of all data before mixing this...
