Zoom Lens is a great addition to Sony Alpha DSLR-A700

Strengths: Great zoom lens that is easy to attach to camera, great for capturing photos of kids, animals and sports from a distance

Weakness: None

I bought this zoom lens to compliment the kit lens that came with the Sony Alpha DSLR-A700. It works great and quickly integrates with the camera set up. I use it to capture pictures of my kids from a distance so that they don't hide from the camera. I also use it to capture their soccer games. The lens and camera produce excellent photos. A must own item if you go with a Sony Alpha!

70 300 Lense

Strengths: Great for far away portraits, when you dont want kids knowing you are taking there picture

Weakness: Moving objects in dim lights appears to need tri pod to focus properly, picures fuzzy. Sony A300 camera tends to give red eyes with the flash w this lens

I have been extremely happy so far. I purchased this lens for portraits from a distance and they look great, I bought lens to go whale watching If these pictures come out as good as still life's I will be extremely happy.
So far so good.

Fantastic zoom lens for the novice

Strengths: Ease of use, long-range zoom

Weakness: Size

We bought this with our Sony a200 after having used this lens at a soccer tournament where Sony loaned them (with a100 cameras) free for parents' use. We are certainly novice photographers, and as I noted in our camera review, my more photo savvy friends assure me this is entry level equipment. That may be true, but the performance of the equipment exceeds our expectations. We have no trouble...

Cheap but GOOD Lens

Strengths: Price, Zoom Range, built quality

Weakness: AutoFocus at the long end in low light

A must have for people with low budget but want to have long zoom range for their Sony ALPHA DSLRs. AutoFocus keeps hunting at the long end in low light (indoor), but that's normal for lens this long and aperture is at f/5.6, Manual focus fix the problem.

OK zoom lens

Strengths: Good amount of zoom

Weakness: very soft slow AF not as crisp as my Tamron 70-300mm

Very mediocre. This came with my camera as a package at circuit city. With the a300, it's simply ok at best. Nothing stunning about it. I replaced it with my Tamron 70-300mm and have been much pleased with the Tamron's performance, not to mention Tamron's 6 year warranty. This lens is really soft and has a slow AF. The tamron is actually cheaper and is a much better piece of glass. Don't bother...
