Strengths: Solid build
I had the previous BG-E2 for my 20D and I never used my 20D without it. The feel of the camera as well as the double battery life made it essential to carry around. I got the 40D recently and so decided to get the next gen battery grip and so far it's been a good choice.

Well Designed, Highly Recommended
Strengths: Looks great, well built, adds AA battery option for camera power, improves camera balance/feel.
Weakness: Added weight, removing camera battery cover may require consulting the camera manual.
Overall, a great product. Doubles battery life for extended shooting with on-camera flash, lots of autofocus (e.g., shooting sports with long lenses), extended use of camera LCD screen. Allows use of AA batteries if you run out of charged Canon LiOn battery packs. Also allows use of Canon Hand Strap E1, which very-comfortably and securely straps the camera/grip to your hand.

Great addition to the 40D/30D/20D
Strengths: Doubles battery life, allows use of AA batteries with the provided magazine, makes camera feel more "natural," can operate with only one BP-511A battery, easy install/removal, good build quality.
Weakness: Could use an AF-ON button to match the built-in grip on the 40D. Expensive.
This grip really makes my 40D more enjoyable to use. It's hard to describe, but the camera feels more of an extension of myself with the grip on. It just feels more natural. I do a lot of sports photography, which often requires switching to or from horizontal/vertical as quickly as possible. Having the added set of controls on the grip allows me to do so with very little effort. I've taken close...

I've taken close to a thousand shots in a single day with the grip and two BP-511A batteries in it (ie, two soccer games) with plenty of battery life left at the end of the day. The included magazine which allows you to use AA batteries is a nice backup in case you don't have any charged BP-511A batteries around (ie, a long trip) or don't want to buy a second BP-511A due to their cost.
The only thing I wish this grip had is an AF-ON button, as found on the 40D. I like to use back-button focusing, so the AF-ON button is really handy, as its presence means I don't have to dedicate a different button for focusing. Since the grip doesn't have the AF-ON button, I have to bind the * button to do the same thing AF-ON does, losing the default functionality of *. It's not that big of an issue, as Canon's previous cameras don't even include an AF-ON button.

Strengths: Well build Good weight Texture to prevent slip
Weakness: Could be a bit cheaper
I got this grip to use with my canon EOS 40D digital camera. It is providing really good battery. the grip also have a good feel. Connects well with the camera and quality of the build is pretty good. I would definitely recommend this unit to whoever is interested in grip units for theirs EOS cameras

Canon BG-E2N EXCELLENT
Strengths: Nice added feature to the Canon EOS 20D, 30D, or 40D Cameras. Has a shutter release button and dial to adjust camera settings. Water resistant build, nice added grip. Allows for extended battery life.
Weakness: Adds weight to the camera
The battery grip can hold two BP-511A or six AA size batteries. it is also equipped with a vertical-grip shutter button, dial, AE lock/FE lock button, and AF point selection button to enable shooting in the same way as a horizontal grip. The battery grip has been so helpfull in taking portait shots.
