Sony VG-C70AM Vertical Control Grip for ALpha 700 DSLR
Strengths: the only vertical grip for this camera
Weakness: none so far
This is a must for a serious photographers. Mount holds two NP-FM500H batteries, so you can shoot twice as long. Camera feels right holding it with this optional vertical mount. It is pricey at 250, but there are no alternatives.

Useful for lengthy shooting sessions
Strengths: Performs as advertised, improves grip ergonomics when shooting vertically
Weakness: Adds weight, requires a second battery, expensive
I can't see most amateurs really needing this. I shoot semi-pro, and mainly I like the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you've got two batteries keeping your shooting alive---most users will have a hard time using all that juice in a day. However, I give Sony a demerit for the confiscatory pricing, and another for their lame battery charger that cannot charge two cells...
