This simple item serves the purpose for which it was designed. This item allows you to connect the included lens hood and optional lenses and filters to your Powershot S2 IS or S3 IS camera. I have not had an opportunity to do much outdoor shooting since receiving the adapter, so I cannot comment on the quality of the lens hood.

The adapter is made out of plastic and snaps onto the camera's mounting ring. It fits snugly it does not rattle or shake. It can take a little bit of force to remove it from the camera, but this means it will not fall out by itself, which is a good thing.

The color matches nicely with the S3 IS; if you have a silver S2 IS it does not match.

Price (approx. $25-30) is a little on the high side for what is basically two pieces of plastic.

Silver would be nicer

The kit is pretty nice and inexpensive. It weighs less than an ounce in total, and allows you to use the full range of available 58 mm filters on your S2. At the very least, any camera owner would benefit from a basic UV filter to improve contrast in hazy conditions, and to protect the camera lens at all times. The kit is pretty nice and inexpensive. It weighs less than an ounce in total, and allows you to use the full range of available 58 mm filters on your S2. At the very least, any camera owner would benefit from a basic UV filter to improve contrast in hazy conditions, and to protect the camera lens at all times. When you are shooting in super macro mode, the adapter and filter assembly come off of the camera with a push of a button. As the old line goes, if your camera lens never gets dirty, you never have to clean it, and it will never get scratched. The second bonus is that you can buy a quality circular polorizing filter, and be amazed at the improvement in contrast, and the reduction of glare they can make in many typical photos. The one thing not so great is the black color, which does not match the silver camera body.

I brought this adapter along with...

Strengths: Ease of use I guess.

Weakness: None to speak of... it's just an adapter! :)

I brought this adapter along with the Powershot S2 so that I could use the filter mount. As well as doing this, the hood helps protects the lens when you don't have the piece of detritus Canon calls a lens cap. All in all, it does what it says.

However, I do take a lot of pictures outdoors and figured I might as well protect my lens and improve the quality of my pictures at the same time. It was a good investment. I bought this product with a UV filter at the advice of someone to protect the lens of my camera. I don't think it was necessary as I really did not have problems with my lens cap falling off. However, I do take a lot of pictures outdoors and figured I might as well protect my lens and improve the quality of my pictures at the same time. It was a good investment. The only thing is that I wish it was more compact. You might need a bigger camera bag to carry it around.
